In the private room, Rachel’s voice rang out. “Wasn’t it you who set the time? Why are you only just showing up now?”
Hearing that, Ethan’s face drained of color, and you could hear the frustration in his voice on the recording. “It’s all that damn Charlotte. She kept dragging me to drink. I barely managed to get away to find you.”
Rachel rushed forward excitedly, trying to snatch my phone. “Everyone, don’t listen! This is fabricated. She… she’s just trying to frame me.”
The police pulled her aside. “Ma’am, please don’t disturb the order. Let us finish listening.”
Rachel’s voice continued. “Michael is coming back tomorrow. If we don’t seize this chance now, we’ll never see the light of day again.”
“As long as we say Charlotte ordered you to rape me, we can send her to Riker’s Island. Then we’ll find a way to take out her whole family, and all the property will be ours.”
At this point, my parents and Michael’s faces were as expressive as a live drama.
The recording kept playing. “Ethan, God knows how excited I was to see you again. I thought I’d never see
you in this life. Don’t worry, I’m willing to do anything for you.”
Soon, unbearable sounds came through the recording.
“So it’s a twisted love story after all.”
“To take over someone’s property, they came up with such a sinister plan.”
—
“You’ve got to be kidding me so the sister–in–law and her sister–in–law’s boyfriend were involved together. Those two schemed to trap the sister for the property.”
The recording ended. I looked at Ethan’s pale face and said coldly, “You swore it was me forcing you to assault Rachel. So how do you explain this recording?”
Ethan knelt on the floor, not daring to lift his head.
Meanwhile, Rachel kept stubbornly denying. “There’s no way she could’ve known about our plan–it’s fake, it
has to be!”
The police looked at her sternly. “Whether it’s forged or not, we will verify with technical analysis. If the
recording is fake, she will be held legally responsible.”
They handcuffed Ethan and Rachel. “As for you two, come with us to the station for investigation.”
Rachel grabbed Michael’s hand tightly. “Michael, please save me. I don’t want to go to jail. I’m being framed. No, you can’t do this to me. I’m pregnant.”
Ethan, on the other hand, looked defeated, as if resigned to his fate.

“Why did you do this?” Michael glared at her angrily. “Say something!”
My father clenched his fists tightly.
Rachel looked around, realizing no one was on her side anymore. Tears flowed uncontrollably.
She stared at Michael, “You think this is all my fault? You’re the one who married me! If you hadn’t gotten in the way, I’d have been with Ethan years ago! All I ever wanted was to be with someone I truly love–is that
such a crime?”
