Chapter 23 You’re My Friend

Larissa, since you don’t know what’s good for you, I’ll make sure you understand what happens when you cross me.
I know it won’t be long before there’s nowhere left in all of Marcrest for you to hide.
Larissa had just sat down when Nancy looked at her with worry.
“Larissa, that news from yesterday already made the headlines, what are you planning to do?
“I really think someone did this on purpose.
“Did you piss off the wrong person?
“You’re just a student, but someone is out to ruin your reputation and force you out of Marcrest High.”
Larissa unlocked her phone and saw the situation was getting way more attention than she’d expected.
Yesterday, the gossip was only spreading at Marcrest High, so of course it hadn’t affect Turner Group.
She wanted to drag Turner Group into it, which meant things had to blow up even bigger.
She wondered how calm Morris would be once he found out the truth–and when the company’s stock started taking a hit.
“It’s fine, don’t worry. If I don’t want to leave, no one can kick me out.”
Larissa explained, steady as ever.
“Larissa, you’re badass. You’re still so calm, even with everything that’s going on. I respect that! Want to grab lunch together in the cafeteria? My treat.”
Alvin came over and asked.
“I’m in.”
Nancy agreed right away.
Ever since Larissa was betrayed by her best friend at 12 years old, she hadn’t made friends her own age again.
“You guys aren’t worried about getting dragged into this just for hanging out with me? I mean, my reputation isn’t exactly great right now.”
Alvin immediately said, “Larissa, I know you’re not that kind of person. I’m not scared.”
He just felt there was something about Larissa that made people want to follow her.
That kind of presence made him want to be her friend, no matter what.
Nancy nodded quickly.

“Larissa, you’re my friend.
“Honestly, I think you’re a thousand times better than Julia.
“I’m sure she set you up. Even so, I still want to be friends with you.”
Larissa nodded. “Thank you for trusting me. Let’s have lunch together, then.”

Since she’d been given a second life–and she was only seventeen–she’d make friends like any other teen.
Out of all the Sowle siblings, only Lucian Sowle was in college and kept up with the latest news. He was the first one in the family to spot the news about Larissa.
He posted in the Sowle family group chat, worried. “Who’s trying to ruin Larissa? Dad, use the connections you’ve got and get that story taken down.
“If this keeps up, I’m worried her reputation will be destroyed for good. She might even get expelled from school.”
Russ happened to be free and jumped in angrily, “Larissa is such a nice girl, and these people are out here saying the worst stuff about her.
“I’m not having it. Dad, get that story taken down right now–don’t let Larissa see any of it.
“Otherwise, she’ll get hurt and just go off somewhere to cry alone.”
Carter had just finished training and nearly lost it when he saw the news.
