“Don’t let people like them ruin your mood,” he said casually. “They’re not worth it.”

Thea glanced at him and frowned. Why did it feel like Mr. Robinett was secretly enjoying the whole thing?

“Maybe we could try arranging another meeting with Mr. Sowle,” he suggested. There might still be room to turn things around.”

Alvin thought again of the woman who had refused him so decisively. Why had she rejected him without even considering it?
