Ruby grabbed Larissa’s shoulders and looked her over carefully, her eyes searching every inch of her daughter.

Larissa patted her mother’s back, trying to calm her down. “Mom, I’m fine. Just a little shaken earlier. I’m really okay now.”

Ruby still didn’t relax. She pulled Larissa to the couch and examined her again from head to toe, worry written all over her face.

“How could this happen to you? Who would be brutal enough to try to kill you?” Her voice trembled with anger and fear. “Tell me who did it. I will make them pay.”

Larissa hesitated briefly, but in the end she decided not to hide her suspicion.

“I think the Bennetts might be behind it. The whole thing started because of Julia.”

Ruby’s expression immediately darkened. The gentle warmth on her face disappeared, replaced by cold determination.

“I don’t care who it is,” she said firmly. “Anyone who dares to harm my daughter will pay the price. The Bennetts. The Turners. I won’t let either of them walk away from this.”

Larissa looked at her mother, and a warm feeling quietly spread through her chest.

Ruby was usually soft–spoken and kind, but she was willing to stand up against two powerful families for

her.

“Mom, I want to handle this myself,” Larissa said gently. “You don’t need to worry about it.”

In Larissa’s mind, Leonard and Isaac were the only ones in the family truly suited to deal with something like revenge. Her mother was too kind–hearted.

How could someone like that possibly help her take revenge?

If anything, her mother might end up getting hurt instead, and that would only make things worse.

Anyone who dared to cross Larissa would eventually pay a price far beyond what they expected.

Just then, the front door opened and Russ rushed inside.

The moment he saw Larissa, he hurried over and scanned her from head to toe.

“Larissa, you’ve got to be more careful from now on! You have no ideal Mom stayed up the whole night after she heard someone tried to kill you.”

He let out a long breath of relief.

“Thank goodness you’re fine. I knew someone like you wouldn’t go down that easily.”

Larissa had just started to feel touched by his concern, but the next second she raised her hand and smacked him. “Russ! If you don’t know how to talk properly, then just stop talking.”

Russ dodged Larissa’s hand and grinned.

“Hey, I’m worried about you, okay? Every time you step outside, something dangerous happens. But you’re tough, Larissa. The important thing is you made it back safe.”

Then he leaned forward, curious.

“By the way, did you see Carter this time?”

Larissa glanced at her mother. Ruby was clearly hoping to hear something about Carter.

She nodded. Carter had made her promise not to tell anyone about what he had gone through.

His pride was too strong. He would never want his family to know about the painful parts of his past.

“Carter is doing well,” she said calmly. “He’s now a top racer at the biggest racing club in Moblos. Once he finishes the international championship and wins the title, he plans to come home.”

Ruby’s eyes immediately grew moist.

“That’s good,” she said softly. “That’s really good.”

Russ looked at Ruby and sighed.

‘Carter hasn’t come home for two years. He barely contacts us, and he even moved overseas just so he wouldn’t have to deal with us.”

Then he looked at Larissa.

Thankfully you went to see him. That’s all thanks to you, Larissa. He’s finally willing to come back.”

Larissa quickly grabbed a tissue and gently wiped the tears from Ruby’s eyes.
