Larissa had always been the quiet, forgettable one–never standing up for herself. So why was she suddenly acting like this toward him?

He glared at Larissa, his frustration boiling over.

“I’m giving you one last chance. Admit you were wrong and apologize. If you do, I’ll bring you home after school. Otherwise, don’t expect us to forgive you.

“You’ve been gone all this time, struggling on your own. By now, you should know–without the Turners, you’re nothing.

“Is this really what you want? To throw yourself away just to be someone else’s mistress?”

“You think I’m just making a scene? You really believe that’s all this is?”

Larissa looked at him with open contempt, watching as he tried to shield Julia. Her eyes reddened, but she pushed the emotion down and kept her voice even.

“Fine. If you want a scene, I’ll give you a real scene.”

Before anyone had a chance to react, she slapped him twice right across the face.

“That’s for never caring about what’s right or wrong. That’s for making up stories about me.”

Harlan froze, staring at her with shock, his hand pressed to his cheek. He honestly couldn’t believe Larissa had actually slapped him.

Everyone around them gasped. Larissa had just slapped Harlan–no one expected that.

“Larissa, you’ve gone too far!”

Harlan, furious, swung at her with his fist.

Larissa stepped out of the way with ease and kicked him, sending Harlan crashing to the floor face–first.

She looked down at him, her voice cold. “Pathetic.”

It’s almost funny–I let someone like him push me around for so many years.

He never cared about anyone but Julia. Why did I ever waste my loyalty on him?

Looking back, I really was clueless.

Everything I did in my past life for them–they were completely pointless.

Turns out letting go isn’t so hard after all.

The people who’d come with Harlan–some of them were his classmates, and the others were his some childhood friends–had all seen firsthand how good Larissa used to be to him.

Seeing her hit him now left everyone stunned.

Most of the crowd had just come to watch the drama. With Harlan ended up humiliated by Larissa, plenty of them couldn’t help laughing.

“I don’t know why, but Larissa is actually kind of cool right now.”

“Harlan’s such a joke–he got smacked around by his adoptive sister and couldn’t do a thing about it.”

“If I were her, I wouldn’t want to go back to the Turners either. With an adoptive brother like that, can you even imagine what life was like for her? Who knows what she’s put up with all this time?”

“Watching her fight back–it’s honestly kind of satisfying.”

Julia heard the gossip, and her face fell.

She never thought Larissa would actually lay a hand on Harlan.
