Terry leaned against his car, a half–smoked cigarette between his fingers.

From across the lot, he watched Larissa standing with two classmates. They were laughing about something, and every now and then she smiled.

So, she could smile.

When she did, two small dimples appeared on her cheeks. It made her look surprisingly pretty.

No wonder Alvin treated her differently. She did have some charm.

A moment later, Larissa noticed him blocking her path. Her temper flared right away.

Her expression turned cold at once.

“Move.” Her voice carried a clear warning.

Terry didn’t step aside. Instead, he moved closer until he stood directly in front of her.

“Ms. Sowle,” he said calmly, “you know exactly why I’m here.”

Larissa frowned and glared at him, irritation flashing in her eyes.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.”

Her tone was sharp and impatient.

Terry studied her face for a moment. A complicated look passed through his eyes.

“Larissa,” he said, “let’s talk somewhere else.”

“We have nothing to talk about.”

Larissa turned to leave. But Terry grabbed her arm and pulled her toward the car.

“If you don’t want your classmates getting the wrong idea,” he said coolly, “then come with me.”

Larissa struggled, angry and frustrated, but his grip was too strong. In the end, he forced her into the car.

The air inside quickly grew tense, Larissa sat stiffly, her face expressionless as she stared out the window, refusing to look at him.

“If you have something to say, say it,” she said coldly. “We’re not friends.”

No one had ever spoken to Terry like that before.

Since she showed him no respect, he decided not to bother being polite either.

Terry looked at her with open arrogance.

He paused, his eyes hard.

“And if I ever catch you trying to get his attention again, I won’t let you off easily.”

Larissa felt a wave of disgust.

She let out a cold laugh, turned to face Terry, and looked straight at him with clear contempt.

“Who exactly are you?” she asked calmly. “What right do you have to warn me?

“And even if every man in the world disappeared, I still wouldn’t like Alvin.”

She stared at him, her voice sharp.

“But what does that have to do with you? I have nothing to do with him. And even if I did, what could you possibly do about it?

“You call me a country girl. Then what are you?

‘Honestly, I’ve never taken rich heirs like you seriously.”

Terry’s face flushed bright red with anger.

You–how dare you talk to me like that!” he snapped. “Do you even know who I am?”

Larissa crossed her arms, her eyes full of scorn.

Who you are isn’t important,” she said coolly. “What matters is that I’m not like you, using your family background to act superior while guessing other people’s intentions.

And trying to control what others think.”
