30 I Found My Real Family
None of this had anything to do with her anymore.
Tom let out a deep sigh. He really felt for Larissa–she was such a pitiful girl.
With a father that biased, it was no wonder Larissa learned to fight back.
Who could stay indifferent after so much unfair treatment and injustice?
Leonard stood outside the door, hands clenched, eyes brimming with tears.
What kind of life had his daughter really lived with the Turners?
He’d always thought the Turners, for all their faults, were at least a respectable family.
They should have taken good care of his daughter, at least materially.
From childhood until now, they’d spent only half a million on her.
Even an average family would have spent more on a child’s upbringing.
What the Turners had done was nothing short of neglect.
If he didn’t need to know the whole story, he would have stormed in and punched them himself.
“Good? You said the Turners were good to me?”
Larissa stared Harlan down, her words scornful as she stepped closer.
“Do you mean you were kind to me when you sent me off to Ravenmind Island overseas?
“Or was it when you taught me from day one that I always had to give in to Julia?
“Or was it when you forgot my birthday, every year? That’s your idea of kindness?

“Or maybe the kindness was when every time something happened with Julia, you made it all my fault.”
Larissa turned to Morris, her eyes colder than ever.
“Morris Turner, I regret it. I should never have left that orphanage with you. Being your daughter was nothing but exhausting and miserable!”
Hearing Larissa say that, Morris couldn’t help but feel a pang of regret for all the years he’d neglected her.
He asked, his voice tight, “Larissa, do you really not want your dad anymore?”
“That’s right. I don’t want you. Your fatherly love–your so–called family–means nothing to me.
“My real family now gives me more than you ever could.”
Larissa looked him right in the eye, her tone calm as she said the harshest words.

Morris took a shaky step back, regret washing over him.
Harlan sneered, “Larissa, you can really lie with a straight face. Are you telling everyone here that you have a new family?
“You’re saying you actually found your real family? You mean the Sowles?
“Everybody knows Mr. Sowle is just your sugar daddy.
“You refuse to come back to the Turners because you’d rather be his mistress. Is that really something to be proud of?”
Julia chimed in.
“Exactly, Larissa. Just listen to Dad and come back to the Turners.
“All you have to do is apologize and we’ll let it go.
“Being someone’s mistress isn’t something to brag about, you know.”
Morris looked at Larissa, deeply disappointed.
“So it’s all true, what they’re saying online?
“You really became someone’s mistress and that’s why you won’t come home?
“How did you end up like this?
“Sending you to Ravenmind Island clearly didn’t teach you anything.
“I’m honestly so disappointed in you.”
Larissa stared at him coldly, her voice flat. “Mistress? You believe anything you hear.
