Chapter 42 A Bargain

“I’ve already sent people to search for it, Monkey said anxiously. “But the research costs a fortune every single day. What should we do now?”

Larissa rubbed her chin out of habit and thought for a moment.

“Who has the raw materials for the new drug?” she asked. “Tell me. I’ll handle it.”

Monkey nodded hard, clearly relieved. This was exactly what she had been waiting to hear.

“Boss, you’re amazing. If you step in, this will definitely work.

“I’ve been digging around. The materials are in the hands of Wesley Robinett from the Robinet Group.

“I contacted them this morning. They agreed to give us the materials, but there’s one condition…”

“Stop stalling,” Larissa said, raising an eyebrow. “What condition?”

Monkey hesitated before answering.

“They want our group to work with them. And they insist that the Wonder Doctor personally treat their boss.”

Larissa let out a cold laugh.

“They really know how to bargain. Still, for the sake of the new drug, this cooperation isn’t impossible. Fine. I’ll meet this man myself.”

Monkey nodded quickly.

“Mr. Robinett is ruthless and very secretive. You should be careful when dealing with him.”

Larissa nodded calmly. “I know. But I’m not someone to mess with either. Reply to him. We meet tonight at seven. He can choose the location.”

With that settled, Larissa walked into the lab.

“I’m going to work on medicine. Don’t disturb me.”

Monkey stared at her in surprise. “Boss, haven’t you stopped treating patients lately? Why are you making medicine again?”

“Don’t ask what you shouldn’t ask,” Larissa said flatly.

She closed the door behind her.

Monkey fell silent.

He felt like he mattered less and less to his boss.

She told him nothing now.

And she still found ways to squeeze every bit of work out of him.

Well, such was the sad life of a salaryman.

Three hours later, Larissa came out holding a small vial of medicine.

“I’m going home now,” she said. “Send me the meeting address. I’ll go straight to meet Mr. Robinett. You stay outside and cover for me.”

Before Monkey could reply, she had already left.

When Ruby returned home, the pain in her chest still hadn’t eased.

Normally, this kind of episode would last at least a week.

Painkillers no longer worked on her. Her body had built

up

resistance.

All she could do was silently endure it.

When Larissa got home, the maid told her that Ruby wasn’t feeling well and was resting.

Larissa went inside. Her mother was lying on the bed, her face even paler than it had been at

noon.

Larissa stepped forward and took out the needles.

“Mom, I know you’re in pain. I’m going to help ease it now. If you agree, just nod.”

Half–conscious, Ruby heard her daughter’s voice and weakly nodded.
