Chapter 431 Side Story: The Rescue Mission (Part One)
Terry stood behind Larissa, his eyes flashing with something dangerous.
He couldn’t quite place the feeling-unhappy, threatened, unsettled.
Wesley gave a satisfied nod and continued.
“I’m glad to see this kind of resolve. You have 15 minutes to resupply.
“Fifteen minutes from now, we depart for the Golden Triangle.”
Everyone in that room was an elite soldier. The moment the order was given, the team leaders from each country moved out to prep gear.
Larissa and Wesley passed each other without acknowledgment. Just two strangers brushing past in a corridor.
Fifteen minutes later, on the plane, the entire team was in full combat gear.
Most of the soldiers were visibly tense. For some of them, it was the first time they’d ever held a live weapon.
For others, it was the first real operation of their lives-the first time they’d come face to face with the possibility of their own death.
f luck didn’t break their way, some of them wouldn’t be coming home.
Wesley looked at everyone in the room with a serious expression.
‘Now I’m assigning duties. This mission is dangerous.
‘If any of you want to make it through, you will cooperate, and you will trust each other.
‘Assignments:
‘Larissa, take a small team and infiltrate the research facility to extract the researchers. Moblos and Yucriesal, handle perimeter- clear the terrorists on the outer ring.
“Watch your backs, all of you.
“Before we go, there’s a pen and a sheet of paper in front of each of you. Use them to write a final message if you want.
“If you don’t make it back, your families will be taken care of.
“But I want every one of you coming home.”
Silence fell over the room. The weight of it landed on everyone at once.
Larissa’s expression stayed calm. She picked up the pen, thought for a moment, and wrote a few lines.
She’d lost count of how many times she’d done this-picked up a pen to write a final note.
In her past life, she hadn’t cared about anything, and her note had always said the same thing: The world is too bitter. If there’s a next life, I don’t want to come back to it.

This time was different. This time, she wanted to come home safe.
Because this time, she had a family who loved her. And a man who loved her.
She folded the note, slid it into the envelope, and handed it to the officer collecting them.
Just as she finished, she glanced toward Wesley and caught his eyes on her at the exact same moment.
At this moment, silence spoke louder than words.
The air between them shifted. Terry noticed it, and his hands curled into fists at his sides.
Only now did he understand that he had never had a chance.
If he made it home alive, he was going to tell Larissa how he felt. He was going to give himself that one chance.
Two hours later, the plane touched down in the Golden Triangle of the northern polar region.
The air there was saturated with the pathogen.
Moving forward wasn’t an option.
The team pulled back into the plane.
Every face in the cabin had gone grim.
“We were too optimistic. This is worse than any of us expected.
“The pathogen-a single speck on your skin and we’re all dead. These death cultists came prepared.”
The Yucriesal team leader spat the words out through clenched teeth.
