Quentin watched her brave front, his gaze growing dark and his aura turning sharp.
"You aren't unlucky, Chloe. I won't let you down."
He blamed himself for being careless. He had personally handed her a heavy promise of hope, only to make her endure this agonizing, soul-crushing disappointment.
Standing nearby, Henry felt terrible for her. He offered a soft word of comfort. "Ms. Reed, I'm so sorry. Please don't lose heart. There will be other opportunities in the future..."
"It's fine. Thank you."
Chloe just wanted to stop talking about it.
Henry knew perfectly well that Chloe was the biggest victim in this entire ordeal, but he had no authority to change things and felt entirely powerless. The guilt gnawed at him.
After a moment of silence, he seemed to make a decision. He looked at Chloe with absolute sincerity.
"Ms. Reed, I've already reviewed your previous medical files. If you're willing to trust me, I'd like to run another comprehensive set of tests and evaluate your condition."
"Once we're done, I'll take your case file directly to my teacher—assuming I can actually get an audience with him, of course. Since he retired, outside of taking on a rare surgery that piques his interest, he practically refuses to see anyone."
Henry spoke with complete honesty. He desperately wanted to help her, but he didn't dare make promises he couldn't keep. He couldn't bear the thought of giving her false hope again.
"Thank you, Henry."
Chloe wasn't holding her breath, but she could feel his genuine remorse, so she didn't refuse.
Back at the original hospital, Henry immediately rallied the medical team and subjected Chloe to a thorough, exhaustive examination.
The entire testing and evaluation process dragged on for over three hours.
