The Wife He Dumped, The Queen She Returned As novel Chapter 404

Sonya Rowe had been waiting outside for a long time and greeted them with a smile.

"Mrs. Sylvain," Quentin greeted politely.

Sonya looked him up and down, growing more satisfied the more she looked. "Quentin, I haven't seen you in a while, and you've become even more mature and steady."

After a brief exchange of pleasantries, Sonya quietly pulled Isabella aside and asked softly, "Bella, how was your day?"

"It was fine." Isabella forced a smile. "I'm a little hungry. Let's go in first."

Sonya, however, saw through the exhaustion and disappointment in her eyes at a glance, her brow furrowing slightly.

She had specifically asked Alaric to go to the Sterling Interpretation Institute today because she was afraid someone would make things difficult for Isabella. She wanted her husband to back their daughter up.

Logically speaking, with her father present and being able to see Quentin, Isabella should have been happy.

Why was she so listless?

Isabella lowered her eyes, her rims quietly turning red. Tears swirled in her eyes, but she held them back, refusing to let them fall.

She lowered her voice, speaking with a heavy nasal tone. "Mom, I lost."

"You lost?" Sonya's face was full of disbelief, her tone suddenly turning cold. "Was it that girl who got in through the back door? Who decided the result? How could they bully you like this?"

"Mom, stop talking." Isabella shook her head, pretending to be calm. "I accept the result. It's no big deal."

It wasn't that she couldn't afford to lose.

Objectively speaking, Chloe's skills had indeed exceeded her expectations.

It was just that she was still unwilling to accept it. If the topic had been different, the outcome would have been uncertain.

Moreover, what truly saddened her was never losing the competition.

Isabella grabbed Sonya's arm and pleaded softly, "Mom, let's go inside. I'm fine. Let's not ruin the mood."

But seeing her daughter forcefully holding back her grievances and pretending to be strong, Sonya felt a sharp pang in her heart. How could she hold back?

She turned around and walked straight into the living room, looking at Alaric with anger in her tone.

"Alaric, explain yourself. What exactly happened today?"
