When he saw Alexander leaning against the wall, he paused for a fraction of a second, his gaze turning exceptionally cold before he walked straight into the hospital room.
Alexander stood frozen, watching Gian’s back as a dreadful feeling washed over him.
Gian had arrived so quickly, so urgently.
Could it be… that the child was Gian’s?
They were engaged, after all. A pregnancy was certainly possible.
Alexander took a deep breath, his thoughts weighing him down. Now that Gian was here to look after Danielle, it was time for him to leave. He turned and walked toward the elevators, his steps heavy, each one feeling like he was treading on cotton—hollow and weak.
Inside the room, Gian approached the bed. Seeing Danielle’s pale face and swollen, red-rimmed eyes, his expression instantly hardened. He reached out and touched her forehead, feeling how cold her skin was. “What happened? Wasn’t the procedure scheduled for the day after tomorrow? How could you suddenly have a miscarriage?”
Danielle leaned against the headboard. “Gian…” She tried to speak, but exhaustion overwhelmed her.
Just then, the door was thrown open and a breathless Kirsten Delaney rushed in, her hair a mess and her face etched with panic. She hurried to Danielle’s bedside and gripped her hand. “Danielle, how are you? Are you okay?”
Danielle shook her head. “The baby… the baby’s gone…”
