Danielle met up with Gian later that evening.
Gian tapped a finger on the technology sharing clause in the contract, his brow furrowed. “Cole is proposing to participate in the optimization of our core algorithm. We have to hold the line here. This is the foundation of Ninesky; we can’t give it away.”
Danielle nodded, about to add her thoughts when her phone rang, Niki’s name flashing on the screen. She answered, and her daughter’s sweet voice immediately came through. “Mommy, Raffy is treating us to yummy food! You have to come! We’re at that kid-friendly restaurant we went to before.”
“Mommy’s busy with work right now, Niki,” Danielle said, softening her voice despite the pang of guilt she felt. She’d been so busy with the Cole integration lately that she’d spent very little time with Niki.
“But you have to come, Mommy!” Niki pleaded. “Raffy said we have to wait for you. And… and I think he has something he wants to tell you.”
Seeing the situation, Gian gave her arm a gentle nudge. “Go on. I can review the details here, and we can touch base tomorrow. The kids are more important. Don’t keep them waiting.”
Danielle shot him a grateful look, gathered her files, and stood up. “Thank you, Gian. I owe you a coffee tomorrow.”

When she arrived at the family restaurant and pushed open the door, she immediately saw Niki and Raffy at a window table, their heads close together as they whispered to each other. Sitting at the table with them was another familiar figure—Harold.
He was dressed in a casual, light gray shirt and was holding a menu, patiently asking the two children what they wanted to eat.
