The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 1071

“Alright, I’ll wait for you at home.”

After she hung up, Danielle had just stepped out of her office building when she received a text from Kirsten.

“No dinner meetings tonight, so I'm crashing your place for dinner. And I get to see Niki!”

Danielle stared at the message, a flicker of hesitation in her heart. Kirsten still didn't know about her recent entanglement with Alexander, and if the two of them met, it would surely cause another unnecessary misunderstanding. She thought for a moment before sending Alexander a text: “My friend is coming over for dinner. Can you come half an hour later?”

He replied almost immediately with a simple “OK,” with no extra words.

Once home, Danielle helped Niki finish her homework and then whipped up a few simple dishes. Just as she was setting the food on the table, the doorbell rang. Kirsten breezed in, carrying a bag of fruit and shouting before she’d even taken off her shoes, “I just followed the amazing smell! Looks like Ms. Crawford’s culinary skills have leveled up again!”

Niki ran over and hugged Kirsten’s leg, calling out sweetly, “Auntie Kirsten!”

The living room was instantly filled with life.

The three of them sat around the dining table. Kirsten watched Danielle, who seemed constantly lost in thought, even picking at her food absentmindedly. She finally couldn't hold back any longer.

“Dani, what on earth has been going on with you?”

“You’re always distracted, like your mind is a million miles away. Is there something you’re hiding? Do we really need to have secrets between us?”

Danielle’s hand paused mid-air. Seeing the concern in Kirsten’s eyes, she felt a pang of guilt. She hesitated for a few seconds before saying softly, “It’s nothing major. I’ve just been worried about Niki’s safety lately, and it’s left me on edge.”

“Her safety?”

Kirsten frowned, then smiled and patted her hand reassuringly. “Don’t you worry. The security in this gated community is top-notch, with guards patrolling 24/7. Sammie even has people keeping a discreet watch. Besides, you’ve got me!”

Alexander walked into the living room, his eyes instinctively scanning the space. He only sat down after he spotted Niki’s school bag on the sofa.

Danielle returned with a cup of hot tea and handed it to him. “Did you just get here? It’s cold out. You should have worn more layers.”

Alexander took the cup, the warmth from the porcelain spreading through his fingertips and chasing away some of the chill. He looked up at Danielle, his tone flat. “I just arrived.”

But Danielle frowned, her gaze falling on his damp hair. “You’re soaked. It doesn’t look like you just got here.”

“Were you waiting nearby?”

Alexander’s voice was quiet. “Yes, very close. I waited in the area for a little while.”

Danielle looked at him, a suspicion forming in her mind, but she didn’t press him. Instead, she walked over to the sofa, picked up Niki’s report card, and handed it to him. “Niki’s current school is quite far from here. Regarding a transfer, do you have any good schools you could recommend?”
