“Harold might not care about the Davidson family fortune, but his son Raffy could inherit it in the future, which is the same as it being his. This way, I would continue running the family business, and he could just sit back and reap the benefits.”
Danielle was horrified. The depth of Jake and Harold’s scheming was terrifying.
No wonder. No wonder Jake had always been so fond of Raffy. Even when it was revealed that Raffy wasn’t a biological Davidson, he hadn’t seemed all that angry. Everything he had shown Alexander was a lie, an act.
“So you don’t need to worry about this,” Alexander continued. “He won’t mistreat his own son. But it shows that a man who would use his own child as a pawn is capable of anything.”
Danielle was speechless. The whole situation felt utterly absurd. All these years, they had all been pieces in a game.
“Given his political career, Jake could never let it be known that he has an illegitimate son,” Alexander said. “His stable marriage is tied to his political stability. If this came out, my mother would undoubtedly divorce him, which he would never allow. So he and Harold planned this long ago, a seamless way to transfer the Davidson family’s entire fortune to the person he wanted.”
Alexander couldn’t help but find it darkly amusing, and deeply ironic. His own father had plotted against him. He had dedicated himself to the Davidson family and to keeping them harmonious, only to discover it was all part of a scheme. Even between two biological sons, a father always has a favorite.
Danielle clenched her fists and looked at Alexander, wondering how he must have felt after learning all this, and how he had managed to endure it in silence for so many years.
He could have just given up or confronted them head-on, but that would have put her and Niki in danger. Besides, Harold and Jake’s plans were so complex and deeply entangled that it would take time to unravel them and counter-plan. The safety of Danielle and his daughter was paramount.
His vulnerabilities were too obvious, and he wasn’t fully confident he could take on such powerful forces. When it came to Danielle and their daughter, he had to be absolutely certain of his success.
“We’re not dating. We’re just pretending.”
Alexander paused, his gaze deepening as he looked at her.
Danielle smiled. “We’ve been good friends for so many years. We’d never joke about something like that. It’s friendship, not romance.”
“Alexander, thank you for telling me all this today,” she said. “If possible, I hope we can continue to be honest with each other from now on.”

OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
