“Okay, Mommy, be safe,” Niki nodded. Then, as if remembering something, she added, “Mommy, is Dad taking you?”
Danielle paused, then smiled and nodded. “Yes, he is.”
“That’s great!” Niki jumped for joy. “Mommy, you have to get along with Dad. I really like him.”
Danielle stroked her daughter’s head, her heart full of warmth. “I know, sweetie. I will.”
Danielle went downstairs and got into Nash’s car. As the car moved smoothly through the city, she leaned back against the seat, watching the scenery pass by, her heart a mix of anticipation and anxiety. She didn’t know if this trip to the hospital would be a turning point in their relationship or if they would remain separated by that same invisible wall.
The car soon arrived at the hospital. Nash parked and said, “Miss Crawford, Mr. Davidson is already waiting inside. I’ll take you to him.”
Danielle nodded and followed Nash into the building. Rebecca’s office was on the third floor. As they approached, they saw Alexander standing in the hallway. He was dressed in a well-tailored dark suit, his posture so straight and commanding that passing nurses couldn’t help but glance his way.
When he saw Danielle, Alexander’s eyes lit up, and he walked over quickly. “You’re here. Is your headache any better?”
“Much better,” Danielle nodded, her gaze slightly evasive.
“Let’s go in. Rebecca is already waiting for us.” With that, Alexander pushed open the office door.
Inside, Rebecca was at her desk reviewing a file. She stood up with a smile when they entered. “You’re here! Have a seat.”
Danielle and Alexander sat on the sofa. Nash tactfully excused himself and closed the door behind him.
“Danielle, you haven’t been resting well again, have you? You look a bit pale,” Rebecca said with a note of concern.
