She strode toward the core lab and, upon entering, saw Alexander frowning in deep thought over a mountain of surveillance data.
He looked up at the sound of her footsteps, his expression shifting slightly when he saw her.
“What are you doing here?”
“I’m here to help.” Danielle walked to his side, her eyes scanning the data on the screens. “What’s the situation? Any leads?”
Before Alexander could answer, Parham, the lead engineer, suddenly spoke up, his tone laced with suspicion. “Miss Crawford, why have you returned so suddenly? You were the only person to leave the station yesterday, and you’re an external contractor, not a member of our core team.”
Danielle froze, staring at Parham in disbelief. She couldn't believe that at a time like this, he would point the finger of suspicion at her.
“Parham, what are you implying?” Danielle’s voice turned cold.
“I’m not implying anything. The chip is missing, and this is a serious matter. Everyone is a suspect,” Parham retorted, his brow furrowed and his tone unyielding. “You were the only one who left the station, and your status here is… unique. We have to be suspicious.”
“So you’re panicking and looking for the first person to blame?” Danielle let out a short, scornful laugh. “I was evacuated on Alexander’s orders. Sammie was with me the entire time, and my hotel check-in is on record. How could I possibly have had the opportunity to steal the chip?”
“Who’s to say you didn’t collude with someone on the outside beforehand?” Parham pressed on. “Your very status as an external contractor is questionable. Who can guarantee your loyalty?”
“I’m going to check the test site,” Danielle said coolly, turning to leave. She remembered that the last time the chip was used, it was being prepared for an environmental simulation on the outdoor test platform. Perhaps there was a clue there.
Alexander glanced at Parham, his eyes dark and his expression unreadable, and said nothing. He then turned, left the lab, and silently followed Danielle.
Outside the station, the wind cut like a knife against their faces.
He followed her at a slight distance, neither speaking nor calling out to her.
Suddenly, Danielle stopped walking.

Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
