Alexander knelt beside her, joining the search. "Unlikely. There's not much wind in the crevasse, so the snow wouldn't be deep enough to hide it."

His gaze swept into the darkness, his brow tightening. "Maybe the person who took the chip never came down here at all. They just left the marks to mislead us."

Danielle stood up, rubbing her frozen hands, her heart sinking with disappointment and anxiety.

It was as if the chip had vanished into thin air, leaving no useful clues.

She looked up toward the opening. The sky seemed to have grown darker, and the howling wind sounded even more violent. She could even hear the sharp cracking of ice.

"Something's wrong. We need to get out of here, now," Alexander said, his expression changing abruptly as he grabbed Danielle's wrist. "A blizzard's hitting."

His words had barely left his mouth when the entire glacier began to shake violently.

A deafening roar echoed from above as a cascade of snow and rubble tumbled into the crevasse, striking the ice walls with jarring thuds.

The flashlight flickered and died in the chaos, plunging them into total darkness, leaving only the howl of the storm and the terrifying sound of splintering ice.

"Hold on to me!" Alexander's voice was urgent as he gripped Danielle's hand tightly, pulling her close.

They stumbled behind a large boulder, narrowly avoiding the falling debris.

A torrent of snow and rocks continued to pour down, quickly blocking most of the crevasse opening, leaving only a narrow slit of faint light.

The temperature inside the crevasse plummeted. The frigid air felt like knives against her skin. Danielle could feel her body temperature dropping rapidly, her consciousness starting to fade.

"Cold… so cold…"

Her teeth chattered, and she began to tremble uncontrollably, instinctively leaning toward the only source of warmth beside her.

Alexander felt her trembling and knew that if they stayed like this, they would both freeze to death.

He wasn't afraid of dying, but he couldn't let Danielle die here.

He couldn't let Niki lose her mother. He couldn't let the future they'd just started to glimpse be cut short like this.

"We won't."

"These storms come in waves. If we can just hold out until it passes, we'll have a chance to get out."

He looked down at Danielle in his arms. Her face was ashen, her lips purple from the cold, and her brows were knitted in pain.
