Just then, one of his subordinates came running, stumbling through the snow in his haste. “Mr. Sammie! Miss Kathie is waiting for you outside the camp!”
Sammie frowned, a flash of irritation in his eyes. “Ignore her,” he said, his tone cold and hard.
Kathie. The fiancée his family had forced upon him. Spoiled, willful, and good for nothing but causing trouble. He had never felt anything but contempt for the woman.
The subordinate, however, pressed on, taking two steps closer and lowering his voice. “Mr. Sammie, Miss Kathie said she’s here because of Miss Rebecca.”
Sammie’s body went rigid, the frost in his eyes instantly freezing over.
“Miss Rebecca bought a ticket to Antarctica. She’s already on her way.”
“Miss Kathie said she was afraid Miss Rebecca would do something reckless, so she went to the airport to intercept her!”
Rebecca!
The name was a needle, stabbing straight into Sammie’s heart. That woman was always so impulsive. She knew this place was a lion’s den, yet she still dared to charge in.
Sammie’s expression turned grim, his eyes churning with a storm of anger and worry. Without another word, he spun around and strode toward a nearby SUV. “Get the car ready,” he snapped, his voice like ice. “We’re going to the airport!”
The engine roared to life as he slammed his foot on the accelerator, the SUV tearing across the snow and kicking up a blizzard of white in its wake.
-
The flight, over a dozen hours long, had drained every last bit of Rebecca’s strength. The moment she stepped out of the terminal, a biting wind, thick with ice particles, slapped against her face, making her cheeks sting.
She pulled her coat tighter, dragging her heavy suitcase as she walked unsteadily toward the taxi stand. Her mind was consumed with the panicked sound of Danielle’s voice on the phone and the news that Alexander was hovering between life and death. She hadn’t even had time to deal with her jet lag; her only thought was to get to her hotel, find a local contact, and figure out how to storm Harold’s compound to save them.
Just then, she felt a faint, prickling sensation on her back, like a pair of eyes boring into her.
Rebecca stopped and whipped her head around.
Standing by a floor-to-ceiling window not far away was an exquisitely dressed woman. She wore a long, camel-colored cashmere coat with a matching scarf, her makeup was flawless, and her eyes held a look of condescending scrutiny.
The moment their eyes met, the woman didn’t look away. Instead, she curved her lips into a faint, ambiguous smile.
Rebecca watched them, a crushing weight settling on her chest, making it hard to breathe. A sharp pain shot from her heart and spread through her entire body, making her fingertips tremble. She thought back to how things used to be.
Back then, Sammie was her personal bodyguard. He always walked three paces behind her, silent and watchful, his sharp eyes warding off anyone who tried to get too close. Back then, his life was simple, and no other woman was ever allowed within arm’s reach.
She remembered one night when she was drunk, tugging on his sleeve and asking, Will you stay with me forever? He didn’t answer, just silently draped his coat over her shoulders, his deep eyes reflecting nothing but her.
Back then, she truly believed this man would be hers forever. That he would be a great tree, always there to shelter her, never to leave.
But now?
He stood beside another woman, the indulgence in his eyes a tenderness she had never received.
The wind picked up, whipping Rebecca’s hair across her face and blowing away the moisture gathering in her eyes. She yanked her wrist free with such force that it startled Sammie.
Taking two steps back, she put distance between them. Her gaze fell to the woman’s arm linked with his, and her voice came out dry and brittle. “What I’m doing here… I don’t see how that’s any of your business anymore, Sammie.”

The readers' comments on the novel: The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell
Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
