That night, the warm glow of a floor lamp split the vast study into light and shadow. The desk was buried under a mountain of financial reports, contracts, and transaction records for the Gaylord Group and Vanguard Technologies, a dizzying maze of fine print.
Kirsten rubbed her sore eyes, her finger tracing a red marker on her tablet. It was a financial loophole she had spent three hours hunting down—an overseas investment by the Gaylord family last year. The accounting was flawless, but hidden within the cash flow was a secret channel that ultimately led to Harold’s personal account.
"Found it," Kirsten’s voice was raspy with exhaustion, but she couldn't hide a spark of excitement. She nudged Gian beside her and handed him the tablet. "Look. The Gaylord family and Vanguard Technologies did have financial dealings. The amount is substantial, big enough to attract the attention of the SEC."
Gian, who had been poring over a patent licensing agreement for Vanguard, looked up, his eyes bloodshot. He took the tablet and swiped through the data, his brow gradually un-furrowing. "This is an excellent breakthrough. I'll have the legal team follow up tomorrow and build a solid chain of evidence."
He glanced at his watch. The hands pointed to three in the morning. Outside, the night was an inky black. The only sounds in the room were the scratching of pens on paper and their occasional whispers.
"You should get some rest," Gian said, his gaze falling on Kirsten's pale face, his voice laced with an imperceptible note of concern. "I can go through these files myself."
Kirsten waved him off, grabbing a pen and starting to sketch notes on a piece of paper. "No way. We agreed to fight this battle side by side. Besides, I can't have you leaving me in the dust. That would be embarrassing for Mrs. Atwood."
Her tone was teasing, and Gian couldn't help but chuckle. Just then, his phone, sitting on the desk, vibrated with a notification that their food delivery had arrived.
"I'll go get it. Wait here," he said, getting up.

OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
