All that remained was a softness he had never shown before, like jade soaked in warm water, so gentle it seemed it could melt. He raised his hand, his fingertips brushing against Danielle’s cheek, wiping away a stray tear. His touch was feverishly hot.
“You’ve been through a lot,” Alexander said, his voice raspy.
Danielle looked at him, tears welling up again, but she just smiled and shook her head.
Leaning against the doorway, Sammie watched the scene with a knowing look. He checked his phone, read a message from his subordinate, and said in a low voice, “The decoy worked. The pursuers have been led in the opposite direction. The police are also investigating. We’re safe for now.”
With that, he quietly closed the door, leaving the two of them alone in the warm space.

Alexander’s fever raged through the night, finally breaking the next morning. Propped up against the headboard and covered with a thick blanket, he was still pale but seemed much more alert.
He watched Danielle at the table, where she was carefully organizing the handwritten evidence list. She was wearing an oversized men’s shirt—one Sammie had found for her—with the sleeves rolled up to her elbows, revealing slender, pale arms. Her profile was calm and focused, her long lashes fluttering as she occasionally rubbed her tired eyes.
Watching her, a faint smile touched Alexander’s lips.
For years, he had tried to shoulder everything alone, to shield her from the filth of his world, from the dangerous schemes and conflicts. He thought he was protecting her, but he never realized that his actions had created such a deep misunderstanding between them, causing her so much pain.
He was silent for a long moment before he spoke, his voice hoarse but clear.
“Danielle.”
Sammie leaned against the doorframe, hands in his pockets, his calm gaze resting on the three of them, a silent guardian.
Rebecca pulled her hand back from Alexander’s forehead and turned to Danielle. “Don’t ever be this reckless again. You nearly lost your lives in Antarctica.”
Danielle smiled faintly, a lingering weariness in her eyes, and asked softly, “What are you doing here?”
Rebecca’s eyes flickered over Danielle’s reddened eyelids. She looked down, smoothing her clothes, and said simply, “I was worried.”
Danielle’s smile deepened at her words. She leaned in closer and whispered, “Worried about us, or worried about Sammie?”

The readers' comments on the novel: The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell
Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
