But these last few days had given her time to reflect, and she realized just how shallow and snobbish she had been.
“It wasn’t a hardship,” Danielle said, shaking her head.
“The past is the past.”
Alexander watched the two women holding hands.
He wrapped an arm around Danielle, pulling her into his embrace, and looked at his mother.
“Mom,” he said solemnly, “I won’t make you worry like this again. And I will never let Danielle get hurt again.”
Bianca looked at the couple, her son’s arms wrapped protectively around the woman he loved.
She knew then that after surviving this ordeal, her son had truly grown up.
Meanwhile, Gian and Kirsten sat in the car, watching the city scenery fly by in silence.
The atmosphere was a little strange.
Kirsten turned to Gian, a faint smile playing on her lips.
“So? How does it feel, having the title of Mrs. Atwood? Not too bad, I hope?”
Gian turned, his eyes landing on her striking profile.
A complex emotion flickered in their depths before he let out a soft laugh.
“No,” he admitted.
“Not bad at all.”
A suburban villa, encircled by a dense grove of camphor trees, was dappled with sunlight filtering through the leaves.
Niki, dressed in a little yellow frock, sat on a swing on the lawn.
She held a lollipop in one hand, kicking her short legs and humming a tuneless song.
Calvin, standing nearby, saw the car pull into the driveway and hurried to meet it.
The door opened and Alexander stepped out first, then carefully helped Danielle.
His steps were still a bit unsteady from his not-yet-healed chest wound, but he held his back straight.
The moment Danielle’s eyes landed on the small figure on the swing, her own eyes welled up, and she practically ran across the lawn.
“Niki!”

OMG! Chapters 451-462 had me on edge. I wish we could also read Alexander's POV. I swear I want to punch him and Millie. This story is kind of a push and pull. The main character will win some, then lose some. Hope the writer gives Danielle a big win....
