The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 1279

“Of course,” Danielle said with a reassuring smile, wiping the tears from his face.

“Grandma cares about you, too. She’s just having a hard time processing everything. She’ll come around in a few days.”

After the bath, Danielle dried Raffy’s hair and led him to Niki’s room.

Niki was on the carpet, setting up a game of Five-in-a-Row.

When she saw Raffy, she bounced up to greet him, a black game piece still in her hand.

“Raffy, let’s play Five-in-a-Row!” Niki chirped.

Looking at her bright, cheerful face, some of the gloom in Raffy’s heart lifted, but he still couldn’t fully relax.

He nodded and slowly sat down on the carpet, pinching a game piece between his fingers, hesitating to make a move.

Niki didn't mind. She arranged the board, chattering as she did.

“You used to be so good at this game, Raffy. You always beat me.”

She looked up at him, her small face serious.

“You’ve always been great, you know. You just took a few wrong steps. Dad says everyone makes mistakes, and as long as you fix them, it’s okay. Don’t worry, Mom and Dad would never abandon you.”

Raffy looked into Niki’s sparkling eyes, and his own reddened again.

But this time, he nodded firmly and placed his piece securely on the board.

Meanwhile, the lights were still on in the study.

Danielle walked in with a glass of warm water and saw Alexander at his desk, looking over documents, a hint of fatigue in his features.

“Still working?” Danielle placed the glass by his hand, her voice filled with concern.

“Raffy was so reserved today. He barely ate anything. It was sad to see.”

Alexander put down the documents and rubbed his brow.

He looked up at Danielle, the weariness in his eyes replaced by a soft warmth.

“That’s to be expected,” he said.

“He’s fallen from the clouds to the dirt. Of course he’s scared. Now he’s living under someone else’s roof, so it’s natural he’d be overly cautious. Kids are resilient. He’ll get used to it in a few days.”

“Then I’ll wait. Until you nod, until you say yes.”

Faced with this side of Alexander, Danielle couldn’t hold back her smile any longer. Her eyes crinkled.

“Approved.”

The next day, Alexander booked a table at a restaurant on a high floor.

They had both been incredibly busy, and this evening was a rare moment of peace they had managed to steal for themselves.

Danielle wore a champagne-colored gown that made her skin look as white as snow.

The moment she sat down, a vase of her favorite white roses, their petals still dotted with dew, was placed on the table.

“About Raffy,” Danielle began, “I wanted to talk to you.”

These past few days, Raffy’s cautiousness had been like a tiny thorn pricking at her heart.

Alexander’s voice was deep.

“We don’t need to walk on eggshells around him, but we don’t need to be overly harsh either.”
