The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell novel Chapter 1291

“I’ve already instructed the risk management department to tighten up the review process. We absolutely cannot let anyone with ulterior motives exploit any loopholes.”

“I should hope so.”

Gian’s gaze softened as he looked at her. “I know you’re capable, but this is a major issue. We can’t afford to be careless. If you need any help, don’t hesitate to ask.”

A warmth spread through Danielle’s chest, and she smiled. “Don’t worry, I’ve got it under control.”

Gian stood and walked to the window, watching the endless stream of traffic below. He seemed to remember something and turned back. “Oh, right. About Alexander… the way you two are now, it’s good.”

Danielle’s response was hesitant. “What’s good or not good about it? We’re just… ordinary neighbors.”

Gian couldn’t help but let out a low chuckle. “Right. Neighbors.” He didn’t press the point, simply adding, “Focus on your work. Don’t let personal emotions cloud your judgment.”

Danielle nodded, watching as he left the office. She settled back at her desk and picked up the file on their overseas partners. Ninesky Technologies was something she, Gian, and the others had built from the ground up with their own blood, sweat, and tears. She would never let anyone destroy it.

As dusk settled over the city, the lights came on along the road below Ninesky Technologies.

Danielle had just seen off the last group of representatives from their overseas partners. Rubbing her sore neck, she walked out of the building and saw a familiar black sedan parked by the curb. The driver respectfully opened the door for her. “Ms. Crawford,” he said in a low voice, “Mr. Davidson is waiting for you.”

The alcohol slowly began to take effect, and he leaned back against the seat, his gaze growing hazy. Before long, his breathing evened out, and he had fallen asleep. His profile looked particularly soft in the dim, shifting glow of the streetlights. His usually firm lips were slightly parted, and his long lashes concealed the sharpness in his eyes.

Danielle watched him, her heart stirring. She reached out, wanting to straighten the slightly open collar of his shirt, but her fingertips had barely brushed the fabric before she pulled her hand back. The driver glanced at them in the rearview mirror. “Ms. Crawford,” he said quietly, “Mr. Davidson postponed several engagements today just to pick you up on time.”

Danielle said nothing, her gaze returning to the window, but she felt a gentle jolt in her heart.

The car drove smoothly through the gates of Davidson Manor and came to a stop just as Alexander woke up. He rubbed his temples, his eyes clearing. Before Danielle could open her door, he was already out of the car and had circled around to open it for her like a gentleman.

“Wait here a moment,” he said, then strode quickly to the trunk and pulled out an elegant velvet box.
