Danielle's voice carried a hint of hesitation. "Ever since I put the kids to bed, I've had this terrible feeling, like someone is watching us from outside the window."
Alexander's brows instantly furrowed, the gentleness in his eyes shifting into sharp alertness.
He patted the back of Danielle's hand. "Don't overthink it. Let me go take a look," he said, his voice low and steady.
Rising from the bed, he walked to the window and peered through the narrow gap in the curtains.
The night was pitch black, illuminated only by a few streetlamps scattered across the hotel courtyard. The snow-covered grounds were completely empty, without a single shadow in sight.
He pulled the curtains back and pushed the window open. A gust of freezing wind, laced with snow, whipped into the room, tossing the hair at his temples.
He carefully scanned the scenery outside. The hotel's backyard opened up into a vast expanse of snow.
In the distance, the mountain range rolled on endlessly. Aside from the rustle of the wind through the treetops, there was absolute silence.
"No one's there."
Alexander closed the window and turned back to Danielle's side. He reached out, gently ruffling her hair. "You're probably just exhausted. Hearing the news about your mom's divorce today was a massive emotional blow. It's making your mind play tricks on you."
Danielle nodded, though a faint sliver of unease still lingered in her chest.
She knew she was likely just being paranoid, but the suffocating sensation of being watched had felt incredibly real.
Seeming to read her mind, Alexander leaned down, scooped her into his arms, and carried her back toward the bed. "Stop worrying. Go to sleep."
"As long as I'm here, no one is going to hurt you or the kids."
His deep, unwavering voice carried a reassuring strength.
Danielle curled up against his chest, breathing in his familiar scent. The lingering anxiety in her heart slowly melted away under his warmth.
The rest of the night passed peacefully.
Early the next morning.
Niki and Raffy woke up bright and early, their playful chatter and laughter from the children's room waking Danielle and Alexander from their slumber.
After washing up, the family of four headed down to the dining room for breakfast.
The hotel offered a lavish buffet. The counters were lined with an endless array of pastries, hot dishes, and fresh coffee, filling the air with a mouthwatering aroma.
Niki and Raffy grabbed their little plates, excitedly darting around to pick out their favorite foods, while Danielle and Alexander followed closely behind, their eyes full of affection.
Just then, a familiar female voice rang out, dripping with forced enthusiasm. "Mr. Davidson, Ms. Crawford. What a coincidence."
Danielle and Alexander turned their heads simultaneously. Ella stood before them in a perfectly tailored cream-colored suit, her makeup flawless and her hair sleek and immaculate.
Smoothly slipping her arm through Alexander's, she kept her voice perfectly neutral. "Is that so? Then I wish you the best of luck with your work here."
"I appreciate that."
Ella smirked, turning her attention back to Alexander, her tone laced with confident temptation. "Mr. Davidson, about the collaboration between our companies... I think there's still room for discussion."
"I imagine The Davidson Group is in desperate need of the resources I control. Especially when it comes to core technology in the renewable energy sector. Reiko can offer you far more than you could ever imagine."
Alexander stared at her coldly, not a trace of warmth in his eyes. "A partnership requires sincerity. If you don't have that, there's nothing left to discuss."
Ella's smile faltered for a fraction of a second before returning to full force. She took a delicate sip of her coffee, lowering the cup and tapping her manicured nails against the porcelain. "Oh, I have plenty of sincerity," she mused.
"You should think it over, Mr. Davidson. Who knows? In a few days, you might just change your mind."
"After all, some opportunities never come around again once you miss them."
She paused, her gaze sliding pointedly over Danielle before snapping back to Alexander, her voice dropping a fraction lower. "You're a smart man. You should know exactly who you need to partner with to make the smartest choice."
Without waiting for a response, she turned on her heel and strutted away, her hips swaying with deliberate confidence.
As she passed the dessert bar, she picked up a macaron, lifted her chin in their direction, and flashed a triumphant grin.
Watching her walk away, Danielle frowned deeply. "What was she implying? I feel like there's a hidden meaning behind every word she just said."

The readers' comments on the novel: The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell
Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
