Alexander's face was terrifyingly grim. He fell silent for a moment before speaking in a low, hard voice. "Ignore her. She's up to no good."
"I'll have someone keep a close eye on her. We need to find out the real reason she's suddenly decided to stay."
Danielle nodded, but a dark premonition coiled in the pit of her stomach.
Ella's sudden burst of confidence was way too suspicious to be a bluff. That smug, victorious look on her face screamed that she was hiding some kind of trap.
Thanks to Ella's little interruption, breakfast turned into a heavy, subdued affair.
Even Niki and Raffy seemed to pick up on the tension between the adults. They quieted down, obediently eating the food on their plates.
Niki took a bite of her toast and tilted her head. "Mom, who was that lady? The way she looked at Dad was really weird."
Danielle gently stroked her daughter's hair. "Just someone we work with. Don't worry about it, sweetie. Eat up."
After breakfast, the family headed out to the ski slopes for the rest of the morning.
By early afternoon, seeing the kids sweating through their layers and their little faces flushed red from the cold, Danielle suggested they head back.
Alexander agreed. Ella's sudden appearance felt like a thorn in his side, leaving him on edge. He knew they couldn't stay here any longer.
After packing their bags, the group piled into the car and drove away from the resort.
As the SUV merged onto the highway, the snow-covered landscape blurred past the windows. Danielle leaned back against her seat, her mind racing with everything Ella had said that morning. She couldn't shake the restless feeling in her chest.
Suddenly, Alexander's phone rang. It was Charley.
He answered it. The tight line of his jaw immediately locked harder, his expression darkening with every word of Charley's report.
"What did you just say?"
"Are you absolutely sure? When did this happen?"
Whatever Charley said next caused the temperature in Alexander's eyes to plummet to freezing.
Hanging up the phone, Alexander slammed his foot onto the gas pedal.
The car lurched forward, picking up speed. Danielle instinctively grabbed her seatbelt.
"What's wrong? What happened?"
Alexander took a deep breath, turning to look at her with a heavy, somber gaze. "Charley just got the news. Vanguard Technologies now belongs to Ella."
"The Reiko Group executed an overnight acquisition. As of this morning, Ella is the majority shareholder and the actual controlling force behind Vanguard Technologies."
"What?"
Danielle's pupils dilated in pure shock. "How is that even possible? Hasn't Vanguard Technologies always partnered with The Davidson Group?"
Alexander reached over, his warm palm wrapping firmly around her hand. "Don't panic. We'll deal with this as it comes."
"If she wants to play games, I'll play until the bitter end. The Davidson Group wasn't built to be pushed around by someone like her."
Danielle turned to look at him, taking in the harsh, determined lines of his profile.
She nodded and squeezed his hand back, though the anxiety clawing at her chest refused to fade.
In the backseat, oblivious to the storm brewing in the adult world, Niki and Raffy were still happily chatting about their day on the slopes. "I wanna go back!" Niki chirped. "I want to build another snowman with Raffy!"
Raffy nodded eagerly. "Yeah, and next time, I'm going to teach you how to ski down the really fast trails."
Their bright, innocent laughter echoed through the car, piercing Danielle's heart like tiny needles.
Looking at her children's sweet smiles, Danielle swore a silent oath. No matter what happened, she was going to protect her family. She was going to protect Ninesky Technologies. She would never let Ella's twisted schemes succeed.
The car sped down the highway, heading straight for the city limits.
Danielle's expression grew heavier by the minute.
A chilling thought began to take root in her mind. "What if Ella had been working for Harold from the very beginning..."
How else could she have acquired Vanguard Technologies so effortlessly?

The readers' comments on the novel: The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell
Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
