Whatever needed to be let go, she was finally letting it go.
"Kirsten..." Danielle's voice was laced with heartbreak. "Don't force yourself to be strong."
"If it hurts, just cry. Don't keep it bottled up."
Kirsten sniffled, fighting desperately to keep the tears at bay.
"I'm genuinely fine," Kirsten insisted. "Danielle, the dream is over. I'm awake now."
"I'm going to be perfectly fine from now on."
Just then, the screech of tires tore through the intersection.
Kirsten snapped her head up and saw a black Bentley hurtling toward city hall.
It was Gian's car.
Her heart leaped into her throat.
She watched the vehicle close the distance, finally slamming to a halt at the bottom of the steps.
The door swung open. Gian stepped out and immediately strode toward her.
He was dressed in a sharp black suit, though his hair was disheveled. His eyes were heavily bloodshot, making it obvious he hadn't slept a wink.
He looked pale, his lips chapped, and his stride slightly unsteady, but he kept marching straight for her.
Kirsten's pulse went entirely off the rails.
Watching him get closer, seeing the exhaustion etched into his features, that lingering crush she had worked so hard to bury flared back to life.
He was here.
He had actually shown up.
On the phone, Danielle heard the commotion and asked, "Is that Gian?"
Kirsten took a deep breath, took the lead, and marched through the doors.
Gian watched her go, a flash of pure agony tearing through his eyes.
He clenched his fists, completely overwhelmed by the crushing reality.
-
Inside the city hall lobby.
Kirsten handed the signed divorce papers to the clerk. As her fingers brushed the paper, she could still feel the phantom warmth of the ink, yet her chest felt entirely hollowed out, her breaths coming in ragged little gasps.
The clerk blandly informed them of the mandatory thirty-day cooling-off period. Their voice was monotonous, utterly devoid of emotion, having clearly witnessed countless separations just like this one.
Kirsten gave a brief hum of acknowledgment, didn't say another word, and turned toward the exit.
She walked incredibly fast, practically fleeing the scene, as if a monster were chasing her out the door.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell
Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
