It felt like a joke. A massive, cruel joke.
"Understood."
Kirsten pushed down her emotions, nodded, and walked out of the office.
The moment she was in the hallway, she leaned back against the cool wall and took a slow, deep breath, forcing herself to calm down.
The office buzzed with people walking past, too busy to notice her momentarily losing her composure.
Luna stepped out a moment later. She walked over, looking apologetic. "I'm sorry, Ms. Delaney. I didn't mean to target you. I just felt the conflict of interest needed to be addressed before it became an issue for you."
"I know." Kirsten looked up at her, her eyes completely devoid of emotion. "You're right. I needed to be recused. Director Kaylee made the right call."
She didn't blame Luna. Luna had made the most professional choice. The fault didn't lie with her, but with this tangled mess of fate and a past Kirsten couldn't seem to shake.
Luna felt a twinge of guilt seeing her so composed.
She wanted to say more, but couldn't find the words, so she just nodded.
"I'll go get started on the case. Let me know if you need any help with your tasks."
Kirsten nodded and watched Luna walk back into the bullpen before she pushed herself off the wall and headed to her own desk.
On the other side of the room, Luna sat at her desk, staring at the file, but her mind was wandering.
She glanced over at Kirsten. Seeing her sitting there alone, her posture rigid, made Luna feel terrible.
She hadn't meant to be malicious; she was just being a professional. But seeing Kirsten sidelined like that still felt wrong.

He grabbed his phone, desperate to call her and ask how she was doing. But his thumb hovered over the call button, unable to press it.
He was terrified that calling would only annoy her, that she'd see it as another unwanted intrusion into her life.
All he could do was sit there, staring blankly at the paper.

Back in Summit Tech's legal department.
Kirsten had finally swallowed her frustration and thrown herself into organizing the company's internal files.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell
Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
