Luna's desk was diagonally across from hers. She was hunched over the Summit-Ninesky case file, a slight frown on her face as she occasionally paused to highlight something.
A moment later, she closed the folder, stood up, and knocked lightly on the legal director's door.
"Director Kaylee, I wanted to discuss the Ninesky case."
Luna's tone was pleasant. "Kirsten is recused because of her shares, but she knows Ninesky's internal operations and contract structures inside out. If she could help me compile the background research, it would save a massive amount of time and fast-track the case."
Kaylee looked up, tapping a pen against her desk in thought.
"She's a shareholder there. You're not worried she might be biased?"
"I'll be managing the case end-to-end, and I'll verify all the data she pulls. Besides, you already recognized her capability—her recusal is an ethics formality, not a skill issue."
Luna smiled, sounding completely confident. "Having her assist with the paperwork plays to her strengths and prevents any office gossip about her sitting idle. It's a win-win."
Kaylee nodded, appreciating the logic. "Alright, let's do it your way. Go loop Kirsten in. Have her assist you."
With the green light, Luna walked straight over to Kirsten's desk.
The rest of the bullpen cast sideways glances. They were the two new hires locked in a death match for one permanent job. Now, one was running a massive case while the other was playing secretary. It was prime office gossip material.
"Kirsten, the director signed off. You're going to help me compile the data for the Ninesky case."
Her voice was just as polite as always. She dropped a stack of empty manila folders onto Kirsten's desk. "I need Ninesky's partnership contracts from the last three years, IP filing records, and all early-stage communication logs regarding this specific project. Be as detailed as possible. Don't leave anything out."

"I'm sitting at a desk in Summit Tech. I know exactly where my loyalties lie. I don't need your reminders."
She had studied law for years and built a solid career. Her professional ethics were her absolute bottom line. Luna wasn't just questioning her loyalty; she was insulting her entire career.

"Don't overthink it. It's just business."
She spun around and walked back to her desk, leaving Kirsten to burn under the scrutiny of her new colleagues.
Kirsten took a shaky breath, shoving the anger down, and turned back to her monitor.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell
Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
