With that.
Her parents and Carter stormed out, slamming the heavy door behind them.
The loud crash echoed, and then absolute silence descended on the hospital room.
Kirsten leaned back against the plush pillows.
She turned her face away to stare blankly out the window.
"You should go too."
Gian stood motionless beside the bed, his gaze tracing the pale curve of her cheek.
He raised his hand, desperately wanting to brush the tangled hair from her forehead, but he froze in mid-air. Slowly, he pulled back.
He gently adjusted her blanket.
"Okay. Try not to overthink. Just rest."
His voice was a low, soothing murmur. "The doctor said it was just severe exhaustion and low blood sugar. You’ll be fine, you just need quiet."
He turned and walked out, not lingering for another second.
Kirsten took a deep breath and squeezed her eyes shut.
The next morning.
Gian returned very early.
Kirsten’s eyes landed on him immediately.
He was still wearing the same tailored suit from yesterday. The dark circles under his eyes were pronounced, and his bloodshot gaze mirrored her own. It was obvious he hadn't gone home to sleep.
Her stomach twisted with conflicting emotions. She wanted to say something, but the words died in her throat. Finally, she forced out a cold, distant sentence. "You didn't have to come."

But as his hand grasped the door handle, she remained perfectly still.
Gian froze for a second.
He took one final look, engraving the sight of her into his mind, before stepping out and easing the door shut behind him.
He moved with extreme caution, terrified of making a sound that might disturb her peace.
The moment the door clicked shut, Kirsten slowly turned her head. She stared at the closed door, her icy facade shattering into pieces of sheer exhaustion and despair.
She pressed a hand against her chest. It physically ached, as if something heavy was crushing her lungs.
She truly believed he was gone. Just like countless times before, the moment she pushed him away, he would leave without a second thought.
She convinced herself his gentleness was just guilt. Just obligation. Nothing real.

The readers' comments on the novel: The Wife You Buried Is Back from Hell
Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
