Danielle went about her day as if nothing was wrong. She dropped Niki off at school.
She handled the usual Ninesky executive meetings without breaking a sweat, her expression cool and professional.
But deep down, her nerves were pulled taut like piano wire.
It wasn't that she wasn't terrified. But for the sake of her daughter, for Alex, and for their future, she had to be ruthless.
Picking Niki up from school that afternoon, she looked at her daughter's sweet, soft face as she babbled "Mommy."
Danielle's heart melted completely. She kissed her daughter's forehead, her resolve hardening into titanium.
She was going to make these bastards pay. Her daughter was going to live in the light, completely untouchable.
Evening fell.
Alex arranged for the nanny to take Niki to a private resort villa outside the city limits, strictly ordering that absolutely no one was allowed near the child.
With everything in place, he went home. He found Danielle already changed into a sleek, black athletic outfit. Her hair was pulled back into a tight high ponytail, exposing a fierce, battle-ready expression.
"Is everything set?" Danielle asked, adjusting her collar.
"Yeah. Our guys are already ghosted inside the yard. Police have the perimeter locked. The second they show their faces, it's game over."
Alex stepped close, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear. "You've got the tracker and the mic on you?"
"Remember, if things go sideways, hit the comms immediately. Do not play hero. I'll breach the second you give the word."
"Don't worry, I'm fully geared up," Danielle said. "I'll keep myself safe. You just bring the hammer down."
Alex nodded. He leaned down and pressed a heavy, lingering kiss to her forehead.

Although she was one of the protagonist (and best friend of Danielle), I'm really annoyed with Kristen. What does she actually want? She wants to be completely free from Gian, whatever their business is. But when Gian doesn't care about her, she gets annoyed and overthinks. Hey, Kristen, the world doesn't revolve around you. You may follow your own feelings, but that doesn't mean you can ignore other people's feelings at all!...
It seems like this novel will end at chapter 5000. Every time one issue ends, another one pops up, and it seems like the author is just trying to drag it out. I'm starting to get tired of reading it....
I hope daniele will have no end game with alexander since whatever the reason is, he only give her too much grievencess. I hope there will be another male character with stronger present than alexander to have the end game with daniele. Hated that in the name of love or protection alexander can treat another woman better, not just once, but with this new lorie girl... Oh my blood pressure getting higher cause by the new plot :(...
