A knot formed in Danielle’s stomach. She never imagined Lorie would be assigned to her team. The thought of working with Lorie every day, coupled with the occasional visit from Alexander Davidson, felt like a special kind of torture.
During her report, Danielle forced herself to focus solely on the project, detailing the progress on the Northridge City initiative, the problems they had encountered, and their plans moving forward.
Lorie sat beside her, occasionally offering professional suggestions with clear thinking and meticulous logic. It was clear she was highly competent. Danielle had to admit that, when it came to her work, Lorie was an undeniable talent.
After the report, the Director asked Danielle to show Lorie around the office. As they stepped out of his office, the hallway was quiet, filled only by the sound of their footsteps.

She continued, "After all, this project is vital to the nation’s aerospace program. We can’t let a personal grudge affect our work."
Danielle turned to look at Lorie. Her face held a sincere smile, and the previous defiance in her eyes was gone, replaced by a serious focus on her work.
After a moment of silence, Danielle replied, "You’re overthinking it. At work, we’ll simply stick to our respective roles and move the project forward together."
