“Ms. Crawford, welcome back!” The department head was the first to step forward, handing her a bouquet of sunflowers. “We’ve been waiting for you to come back. A few of our lab projects have been stalled for ages without you.”
Danielle accepted the flowers, the fresh scent of sunflowers filling the air and warming her heart. “Thank you, everyone. It’s good to be back and working alongside you all again.”
Her colleagues surrounded her as they walked toward her office, greeting her warmly along the way. The familiar atmosphere instantly put her at ease.
Truth be told, Danielle was no longer the young woman who had to depend on others. The divorce from Alexander had left her with a considerable fortune, which, combined with her savings from the Aerospace Institute, was more than enough to fund her research ambitions. Ninesky Technologies wasn’t short on funding either; her return was more like a much-needed boost for the team.
Stepping into her familiar office, she found a new computer and fresh supplies already on her desk. Sunlight streamed through the window, making everything feel welcoming.
Gian came in with a cup of coffee and placed it in front of her. “Feels familiar, right? I told you that you never should have left. Ninesky is where you belong.”
