The Wrong Girl and the Wronged Girl (Stella and Ethan) novel Chapter 899

“So this is what it comes down to—a housekeeper who needs me to personally tell her when to cook? She can’t even handle basic instructions on her own?”

What’s next—if I go on a business trip for a few days, will everyone just starve to death waiting for orders? If Mona wanted to make things difficult, she should’ve at least picked the right person to mess with. She’s got some nerve.

The housekeeper stood off to the side, looking pale and terrified. Mona let out a cold snort. “You went through all that trouble to seize control of the family last night, and this is the best you can do? Making everyone wait?”

Her tone was sharp, deliberately cutting.

Holt’s face darkened as he shot her a warning look. After all, Marie was the Dawson family’s daughter—he couldn’t let Mona push too far. After what happened three years ago, Holt didn’t dare offend the Dawsons again.

Marie crossed her arms. “Then don’t wait if you don’t want to.”

“You!” Mona’s face twisted in anger.

Gary stepped in, adding fuel to the fire. “Marie, people should stick to what they’re good at. You clearly aren’t cut out for this, so why did you fight so hard for it last night?”

“Ha.”

Marie let out a short, icy laugh.

Beside her, Derrick’s face had already turned grim. It was obvious—Mona and Gary had plotted this together.

And judging by Holt’s expression, he wasn’t exactly innocent either.

He was always up early. Did he really not know what he wanted for breakfast? He could’ve easily told the staff to handle it—but no, he’d chosen to sit there, waiting, just so they could stage this petty little scene.

Derrick’s gaze sharpened on Holt. “Seems like you’re still not over what happened last night.”

“Derrick, it’s not about that,” Mona cut in before Holt could respond. “She’s supposed to be running the family, but she can’t even handle breakfast. I’ve already packed up the ledgers for her—if she can’t manage something this simple, then what’s the point?”

Her tone was cutting, loud, and full of venom.

After Reese’s late-night call for money, Mona couldn’t afford to care whether Marie was a Dawson or not. She needed that control back—and fast.

Reese’s surgery was coming up, and she needed cash in hand; this was no time for her funds to be tied up.

Holt stayed silent, letting Mona’s words hang in the air. Watching her, Derrick clenched his fists. She doesn’t even have an official position in this house, and she dares to act like she runs it?

He didn’t bother arguing anymore.

He turned and headed downstairs—his long strides swift and heavy, the air shifting in his wake.

Moments later, the sound of crashing and clattering erupted from the kitchen.

Pots, pans, dishes—everything was being flung to the ground one after another.

Then came the loud thud of something big hitting the floor, followed by another, and another; the sounds alone painted a vivid picture of chaos.

It was ruined. Completely destroyed. That bastard!

They’d just trashed the kitchen—and now they were leaving to eat somewhere else? That’s her idea of running a family?
