Mrs. Sullivan deftly picked up the bills one by one. When she got to Rebecca, she saw Rebecca’s foot was on top of one.
“Your son finds my money dirty. He swore he’d never spend it again.”
Mrs. Sullivan forced a couple of laughs, then lifted Rebecca’s foot, moved it aside, and picked up the bill, carefully brushing it off with her hand.
“There, now it’s not dirty anymore.”
“Mom!” Zebulon’s eyes turned red seeing his mother act like that.
“Rebecca, you’ve been drinking, haven’t you? Your stomach must be upset. Come inside, I’ll make you some hot soup.” Mrs. Sullivan said, pulling Rebecca toward the door.
Rebecca smirked triumphantly, especially as she passed Zebulon. “Three thousand for a bowl of hot soup. I wonder who’s getting the worse end of this deal.”
“We’re family, we can’t keep such close track.”
“You might see me as family, but some people don’t.”
“He just hasn’t come around yet. Once he does, he’ll know how to appreciate you.”
“Hmph. He’s so high and mighty now.”
“Being high and mighty doesn’t pay the bills. He's a man. Let's not make him lose face.”
“Oh really? Well, I don't exactly enjoy embarrassing myself either.”
Every word from Rebecca was a barb. But there was nothing he could do, seething with rage. He had no money, and he desperately needed it, so he had no choice but to endure Rebecca’s humiliation.
Penelope woke up the next morning planning to visit Hannah at the hospital before heading to the office. But Wilma called, saying Darren and his crew were blocking the company entrance, preventing employees from getting to work.
“Did you call security?” she asked.
“Their other lady boss is here! Let’s surround her, don’t let her get away!”
Darren spotted Penelope and immediately yelled for his buddies to close in on her.
Seeing Penelope in danger, her other colleagues rushed over to help. When the two groups clashed, pushing and shoving quickly escalated into a full-blown fight.
Penelope tried to get everyone to stop, but while her colleagues listened to her, Darren’s crew didn’t. Her shouting only gave them an opening to get the upper hand on her colleagues.
She saw a female colleague being grabbed by one of Darren’s men and immediately went to help, but she was blocked by two large men. She tried to push them away, but one of them twisted her arm while the other threw a punch at her stomach.
In the chaos, she managed to block the punch to her stomach, but she didn’t see someone sneak up and punch her from behind.
The two sides were now in an all-out brawl, and the scene descended into chaos.
