Penelope clutched her chest. So that’s what Theodore told their son?
There was definitely some personal resentment mixed into that story!
“I previously assessed the probability of you and my uncle ending up together at thirty percent. However, after getting to know you, I believe that probability is even lower. To avoid disappointing you further, I’ll refrain from making a final judgment for now. Good luck.”
After processing the news of her own demise, Penelope looked at Julian. “I’m really curious how your dad raised you to be so…”
Bizarre!
Julian narrowed his eyes. “What about me?”
“You’re… very cute!”
“Never use ‘cute’ to describe a man. It’s the greatest insult!”
Penelope’s mouth twitched again. “You’re… very smart.”
“Thanks, but you don’t have to tell me. I already know.”
After being interrogated the whole way and taking a considerable blow to her ego, they finally arrived downstairs at Timothy’s place.
Penelope didn’t want to part with her son, but she was afraid he’d see through her. She wanted to hug him, but the boy refused, stating they weren’t familiar enough to warrant a hug.
She got out of the car reluctantly, but Julian called out to her as she was leaving.
“Can I ask you for a favor?”
Penelope nodded eagerly. “Of course, anything.”
“Go somewhere with me tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow?”
“Is that a problem?”
Penelope had originally planned to head back tomorrow, but she didn’t hesitate to nod.
“Tomorrow’s fine. I have time.”
Penelope was about to say she couldn’t come back tomorrow, but Natalie spoke first, telling her to stay put because she and her two kids would also be coming to Orenth in a couple of days.
“Remember that kids’ dance competition Kristin was in? Well, she was scouted by Axiom Dance! They’re casting a new musical and need a few young dancers, so they invited us to audition in two days!”
Natalie was ecstatic. Axiom Dance was a prestigious company, so being noticed by them meant Kristin was truly talented.
“Then I’ll wait for you here in Orenth.”
“Great!” After that, Natalie brought up the video Penelope had uploaded, saying she’d seen it.
“Maria’s face was thunderous in that clip. It was so satisfying to watch.”
Penelope had searched for it when she got back. “You can’t find that video anymore.”
“Hamilton must have stepped in. Not only is the video gone, but there’s been no public outcry either. Still, some people saw it. They know Maria’s true colors now, and some are speaking up for me.”
“You could always come forward and clear your own name.”
Natalie was silent for a moment. “Hamilton plays dirty. I can’t afford to cross him.”
