She opened the door, and Maria lunged at her, ready to strike. Penelope swiftly caught her arm and shoved her away.
"You—you drove my RV without my permission and now you're laying hands on me! You think I'm a pushover, don't you? I'm calling for help right now, you just wait…"
Penelope didn't give her a second glance, simply getting out of the RV and walking away.
Back in the yard, several other parents had woken up and were helping the farmer gather the wheat. Julian was among them, using a broom to sweep the grain into piles.
Just then, the first drops of rain began to fall.
Everyone scrambled, working faster to salvage as much as they could.
Penelope joined in, grabbing a shovel and filling bags with the grain.
The rain intensified, quickly becoming a torrential downpour. Everyone was soaked to the bone, and the last few bags of grain were drenched. The farmer looked at the wet wheat with a helpless sigh, resigning himself to drying it inside, hoping for a sunny day tomorrow to lay it out. Perhaps some of it could still be eaten.
"That Maria. I used to enjoy her TV shows and thought she must be a decent person. I never expected her to be so arrogant and unreasonable!"
"That's why you should never blindly worship celebrities. You never know what they're really like."
"With a mother that domineering, her daughter is the same. She was always bullying my daughter before."
The parents vented their anger about Maria's behavior, but after a few comments, they all returned to their rooms.
Seeing that Julian was also soaked, Penelope quickly took him back to their room and told him to take off his wet clothes while she got him a towel.
But when she returned with the towel, Julian hadn't removed a thing.
"Why haven't you taken off your wet clothes?"
Julian shot her an annoyed glare. "You know exactly why!"
"What do you mean? I honestly have no idea why you won't change."
"I'm a boy! How can I take my clothes off in front of a girl!"
Penelope couldn't help but roll her eyes at him.
"Kid, I'm more than twenty years older than you!"
"That doesn't make it right!"
"So?"
