Benson Cooper's production team was nearly finalized, and the script read-through was scheduled for the beginning of next month. That meant Natalie only had about ten days before she had to join the set. She had originally planned to spend this time bonding with Kristin, but then Director Hugo Olson called her.
Hugo was a heavyweight in the film industry, an absolute master of suspense thrillers. Every single movie he directed became a blockbuster hit, meaning countless actors kept their eyes glued to his projects. Even landing a minor supporting role in one of his films was equivalent to getting one foot in the door of the elite cinema circle.
Back when Natalie was at the peak of her fame six years ago, before the blacklist, she had unparalleled popularity and ratings—but even then, she hadn't managed to score a role in one of Hugo's films.
Natalie didn't hesitate. She immediately entrusted Kristin to her nanny and set off for Hugo's production set.
Filming had already commenced at the studio lot over in Orenth.
To her surprise, Hugo personally came out to greet her, leaving Natalie feeling incredibly flattered yet cautious.
"Ms. Taylor, we've finally been graced by your presence."
The fact that Hugo not only greeted her personally but also treated her with such overwhelming reverence made Natalie both honored and deeply suspicious.
"I already had the script sent over to you, Ms. Taylor. Have you had a chance to read it?"
Natalie nodded. "I read it on the way here. Although the maid character doesn't have much screen time, the character arc is great, and I'd be willing to—"
"Not the maid. Mrs. Thorne."
"Mrs. Thorne?"
Natalie was genuinely shocked. She assumed Hugo had been in a rush and just sent her the entire script. Since he had mentioned it was a female role in the Thorne household, she figured it was the minor maid character. After all, she had no track record in film and had been out of the entertainment industry for six years. Being offered the role of a maid in this production was already a pleasant surprise.
Hugo chuckled. "I've watched several of your television dramas, Ms. Taylor. I am absolutely certain you can pull off this role."
Because they were on a tight schedule, Hugo wanted Natalie to audition today. If everything went smoothly, they could sign the contract immediately.
Naturally, Natalie wasn't going to reject a golden opportunity like this. After finishing her conversation with the director, she followed a crew member toward the dressing rooms. But just as she reached the door, she heard a commotion inside.
"Explain this to me! This role was given to me, so why are you auditioning other people? What do you mean I'm not a good fit? How am I not a good fit?"
That voice... It was Maria.
Natalie let out a heavy breath. From the sound of it, Maria had also auditioned for the role of Mrs. Thorne.
