The Year I Was the Other Woman To Myself novel Chapter 807

Natalie and Kristin had dinner before heading back to the apartment, but Marico was still nowhere to be seen.

Natalie helped Kristin with her homework for a while before tucking her into bed.

"Marico always tells me a story before I go to sleep."

Natalie's mouth twitched. "You managed to fall asleep just fine before he started telling you stories."

"But Marico said princesses need a bedtime story to fall asleep."

"Nonsense."

"Mommy, I really can't sleep."

Left with no other choice, Natalie grabbed a fairy tale book from the shelf. She barely got through the first sentence before Kristin interrupted.

"That's for babies. I'm not a baby anymore."

Natalie raised an eyebrow. "Then what do you want to hear?"

"I want to hear about the time Marico got into a street fight with those gangsters! He's so tough—he fought ten guys all by himself! He didn't even get hurt, except for when he got slashed with a knife!"

Natalie gritted her teeth. That bastard was actually filling a child's head with garbage like that.

"Last night, he was telling me about the time he and his friends went smashing up a casino in Vegas! It was amazing! He promised he'd finish the story tonight."

Natalie snapped the fairy tale book shut and gave a cold scoff. "Go to sleep!"

Kristin tossed and turned for a while, but eventually, she drifted off.

Natalie glanced at the clock. It was past eleven, and a certain someone still hadn't come home. Forcing down her frustration, she lay down on the edge of the bed. Just as she was about to fall asleep, she heard the front door open.

Footsteps grew louder, approaching the room before her door was pushed open.

A dark silhouette drifted toward the bed, stood there for a moment, and then leaned in, bringing a strong stench of alcohol with him.

"What are you doing?" Natalie demanded coldly.

Marico smirked. "You're still awake?"

"Get out."

Marico opened his mouth to reply but let out a loud hiccup instead.

"I just wanted to check on Kristin."

"You reek. Go take a shower!"

Marico paused for a second, let out a low chuckle, and suddenly pinned Natalie to the mattress.
