The Year I Was the Other Woman To Myself novel Chapter 825

Up ahead, the taxi suddenly slammed on its brakes, forcing Theodore to do the same.

An older man in his fifties riding a bicycle had abruptly swerved into the oncoming lane. The taxi driver hadn't anticipated it, and despite braking hard, the car clipped the cyclist.

Both the driver and Heather jumped out. From their vantage point, Theodore and Penelope could only watch as Heather helped check the man for injuries. He didn't seem badly hurt, but he was struggling to get back on his feet.

Penelope grew anxious, worried that lingering on the empty road would blow their cover.

Sure enough, Heather started casting suspicious glances over her shoulder.

Just as Theodore and Penelope were debating whether to drive past and find a spot to wait, the cyclist got up, dusted off his clothes, and waved off the driver's offer for a hospital trip. He awkwardly mounted his bike and pedaled away down a dirt path.

Heather climbed back into the cab, and it continued toward the town.

But just when Theodore expected her to stop at one of the streets, the taxi unexpectedly pulled a U-turn and headed straight back toward Orenth.

Penelope frowned. "Did she realize we were tailing her?"

Theodore let out a heavy sigh. "Probably."

Otherwise, she would never have abandoned the trip before meeting her father.

Frustrated but out of options, they had no choice but to follow her. Heather indeed returned to Orenth and went straight to the hospital.

Outside the ICU, Heather glared at her brother through the glass, her expression hardening into absolute ice.

"Doctor, take my brother out of the intensive care unit. I'm out of money and can't afford the medical bills. I'm officially pulling the plug on his treatment!"

Ms. Lancaster, Heath's attending physician, was just about to enter the ICU. Hearing Heather's demand, she was utterly stunned.

While Ms. Lancaster scrambled for a response, Heather brazenly tried to shoulder her way into the ICU to drag Heath out herself.

"Ms. Haynes, you can't do this! This violates procedure! Let's talk about this!"

"I bet my brother isn't even half as sick as you claim! He doesn't need to be in the ICU at all. You're just milking me for cash! You're a complete quack!"

Heather's screeching echoed down the hall, drawing stares from other patients and their families.

Ms. Lancaster broke into a nervous sweat, her guilt making the situation worse.

"Ms. Haynes, please keep your voice down. This is a hospital..."

"I want everyone here to see what a fraud you are! I'm calling the cops to report you for extorting your patients!"
