But seriously, where were Gardenia's redeeming qualities?
She knew perfectly well that Hassan was a married man, yet she constantly threw herself at him. Wasn't that essentially begging to play the role of the other woman?
Were men truly that unbelievably blind?
Or did they just get off on the sheer thrill of the taboo?
[Just the fact that it's her.]
Reading Jude's pathetic response, Natalie actually laughed out loud in disbelief.
It was absolutely absurd. "Just the fact that it's her"—what was that even supposed to mean? Was he genetically programmed at birth to be obsessed with her?
Completely deranged.
Natalie smoothly informed Jude that Hassan was currently locked in Gardenia's apartment, and that the two of them were supposedly "discussing business."
Jude:
[Is he out of his mind? Two single people alone in an apartment 'discussing business' at this hour? Yeah, right. Give me her address right now.]
Natalie happily texted him the exact coordinates.
Once back inside her own penthouse at Sycamore Quays, Natalie helped herself to some of the Drunken Shrimp that Faye had prepared earlier.
The doorbell chimed.
It was Zeke, arriving to drop off a stack of documents.
Natalie pulled the door open and stepped aside. "Come on in."
Zeke gave a curt nod. "I'll just leave these in the study and head right out."
He carried the heavy files into Hassan's home office, quickly re-emerging moments later. "Apologies for the intrusion, Mrs. Carlson."
"Not at all."
Not long after, Hassan returned as well, marching straight into his study without a word.
A little while later, Adrian was escorted through the front door.
Sitting idly at the dining table, Natalie scoffed internally. Hassan had actually kept his promise to Gardenia, pulling the kid away from the main estate just for her. How delightfully rare.
