Natalie tossed her phone aside and ran a hand through her hair in frustration.

Hassan, who had sat down next to her at some point, asked, "Did you find out anything?"

"No," she replied in a muffled voice.

After a moment, she shrugged. "Whatever, it's your company's problem anyway. I've already cleared my name. It has nothing to do with me anymore."

Thinking about it that way made her feel a lot better.

He threw her a cold, sideways glance. "We are still legally married. If this scandal leaks, the company's stock will tank. If we go bankrupt and drown in debt, you'll be shouldering half of it."

She rolled her eyes. "If the Carlson Group goes bankrupt that easily, I'll honestly applaud you."

Just as she finished speaking, her phone rang.

It was Jude.

Without hesitation, she answered it right in front of Hassan, but after a second, she turned and walked out to the balcony.

The man watched her intently, his gaze heavy.

When she stepped back inside a few minutes later, she caught him staring at her.

She paused. "What?"

"Was that Jude?"

"You saw the screen. What's the point of asking?" she shot back with a tight smile.

"Did you leave The Springfall with him last time? What were you two doing?" Hassan stood up, his tall, imposing frame slowly closing the distance between them, step by step. "You'd better tell me the truth. I covered for you in front of Cecily last time, but that doesn't mean I'll do it again."

She let out a soft laugh. "Then don't cover for me. You only did it to save your own face anyway."

She waved her phone at him. "Aren't you and Jude supposed to be brothers? Go ask him yourself."

"Does the bidding leak have something to do with him?" He narrowed his eyes, looking as if he was trying to dissect her on the spot.

She stepped closer to him, closing the gap between them. "If it actually did, would you let me off the hook? I wouldn't bet on it."

"It better not," he said, his voice dangerously low. "There's a corporate banquet tomorrow. You're coming with me."

She looked up quickly. "Why do you need me there?"

"Don't forget, you are still Mrs. Carlson. Who else am I supposed to bring?"
