Chapter 276
But…
“Yes,” I said. “But not here…”
We were in the middle of a battlefield, and Kairos‘ dried blood had transferred to his human form. There was even some on his face. I didn’t want to think about his teeth, knowing he used them for fighting.
“Ah,” Kairos said. “Yeah. Probably need a shower first. Maybe some toothpaste.” He grinned though. “Won’t apologize, though. Can’t help it that when I see you, I want you.”
“I’m not against that,” I said, blushing. The feeling was definitely mutual.
“We need to get back,” Max said, ever the voice of reason. “When Zora is safe, we can plan… other things.”
Kairos laughed. In my ear, Kairos whispered, “Max wants you too. I’d bet money we could get Thorne to watch.”
My body reacted to his words at once, and I had to physically force myself to separate from Kairos, to step back and remind myself where I was, and what I was around, to get myself to walk back to the car and not become a panting, begging mess.
Fortunately the sight of the vampire corpses was the ultimate cock–block.
When we were back in the car, I sat in the backseat with Kairos, who couldn’t stop touching me, his arms wrapped around me like an octopus, his lips kissing gently up and down my neck.
He’s covered in blood, I reminded myself. Wait until we get back. Shower. Then hot sex. That’s the order.
Max watched us in the rear–view so long that he nearly swerved off the road.
Gently, I pushed Kairos away. Not far enough to remove his hold, but to stop his distracting kisses.
Thorne shifted in his seat, and cleared his throat. “We should talk… Talking is good.”
“Yes, talking,” Max said.
I agreed.
Kairos sighed but sat back on the seat. “I suppose.” He dropped his head back on the headrest and looked down at me. “What happened, Zora? When you teleported.”
That was a fair question, and enough to cool my jets for a minute. Thinking of Neo made my heart ache. I hoped he was okay.
“I wanted to impress Valentin,” I said. “He kept giving me warnings about teleporting. I was starting to believe he thought I couldn’t do it. So when he said to teleport to Max, I wanted to go farther.” As the three men tensed, I added hastily, “Not a lot farther, just a little! I meant to go one hill over. That’s it.”
“You didn’t,” Max said.
“Where did you go?” Thorne asked, turning in his seat to look back at me. “Had you been in the human realm the whole time?”
“No,” I admitted. “I… uh… well, I accidentally teleported to someone’s side. And after getting to know him, I think he might be my fifth mate.” As an unnerved silence filled the car, I hurried to fill it. “Neo was sleeping. I thought he was dead. I swear he didn’t even have a heartbeat until I touched him, but then I felt it clearly. Our hearts were in sync.”
“He was asleep?” Kairos asked. “Did you teleport to his bedroom?”
“No, um… He was in a tomb. At least it looked like a tomb. I think he was cursed.”
More silence filled the car.
“Later, I practiced teleporting with him, and became strong enough that I teleported us back. I tried to get to you all at the safe
