Their Hidden Princess (Zora and Maximus) novel Chapter 275

Chapter 275

Zora’s POV

Zora!Max cried, and in a flash he and Thorne were there, stepping defensively in front of me, blocking Kairos.

Stay behind us,Thorne said. We’ll try to knock some sense into him.

Kairos growled louder, like he could understand them.

If he could, then maybe I could still reach him somehow. Even if he couldn’t, I would still try. This was Kairos we were talking about. I would never give up on him or any of my mates. Our souls were intertwined, connected as one.

I placed a hand on Max’s arm and Thorne’s shoulder, stopping them before they could even think of doing anything rash.

What are you doing?Max asked me.

Zora, he’s dangerous.

Not to me,I told them.

He looks like he wants to rip your throat out,Max said.

He’s literally growling,Thorne agreed.

Kairos regrets having hurt me in the past,I said with confidence. He would never hurt me again.

Max and Thorne exchanged a glance.

You sure about this?Max asked me.

If you’re wrongThorne said.

He wouldn’t,I said with even more conviction. Then, to prove it, I gently pushed past them, moving toward Kairos.

Zora,Max said, alarm in his voice. His hand fell onto my hip.

I’ve got this, Max. Trust me.

Max didn’t move for a long moment. Then, slowly, he withdrew his hand.

Turning my full attention to Kairos now, I stepped toward him. His growl returned, low and deadly, but a type of curiosity stirred in his eyes.

Kairos. I know you are in there,I said. And even if you aren’tYour wolf should recognize me, too? We’re all in this together, I think.

I’d taken my classes on wolves and how everything works, but sometimes things like this still felt like a mystery. Especially when a ferocious, massive wolf was barring its teeth at me. Kairoswolf was beautiful albeit intimidating, kind of like Kairos himself.

Careful,Thorne whispered.

Tinched closer. With slow, telegraphed movement, I started to lift my hand toward Kairos.

Kairos was still low to the ground, still growling, but he hadn’t attacked me yet. That had to mean something, right?

I’m sorry that I disappeared,I said. I was trying to prove myself and it royally backfired. But I’m here now, Kairos. I’m here, and I want you to be here too. We’re going back to the safe house to train. Don’t you want to come with us? Don’t you want to be with me again?

I inched my hand closer.

Zora, this isn’t working,Max said, his voice tense.

Give it a minute, I pleaded in my mind, even knowing he couldn’t hear me. I didn’t want to say the words aloud, to distract from Kairos and this moment I was sharing with him. I needed Kairos’s full focus on me.

I needed him to remember himself. To remember me.

Kairos, please,I said, my voice unintentionally breaking.
