Chapter 124 Ryan’s Feeling
Chapter 124 Ryan’s Feeling
Whitney had exited the app she was using to chat with Charlie.
As she stood up, she bumped right into a broad chest.
A crisp, elegant scent, reminiscent of pine, lingered around her.
She was almost used to carrying that familiar scent with her now.
As Whitney bumped into him, she felt a familiar warmth as his hand slipped naturally around her waist.
She instinctively turned her head and glanced up, only to realize Ryan was standing right behind her, so close she hadn’t noticed him approach
She’d checked on Ryan while texting Charlie, making sure he was still asleep.
But somehow, in the moment it took her to exit the app, Ryan was suddenly right behind her.
Whitney wondered, ‘How did Ryan end up standing behind me so fast?
‘The key is, someone gets close to me, and I don’t even notice?‘
If she hadn’t been at her home in the mountains, she would have immediately awakened and responded defensively the moment she sensed the man in black breaking in.
She was starting to wonder if her vigilance had really declined.
Whitney set her phone down, not sure if Ryan had seen her chatting with Orange.
She didn’t bother to ask.
It didn’t really matter if he saw it or not.
Either way, it wouldn’t make a difference to him.
“Shouldn’t you be resting? Why are you sneaking up behind me like this?” Whitney said, raising her hand to try to push Ryan‘ s hand off her waist.
But his grip only tightened.
His chin pressed against her neck, his warm breath washing over her skin, making Whitney instinctively want to draw her neck away.
Whitney frowned, about to shove him off.
But then, right next to her ear, Ryan spoke in a low, raspy voice, filled with an emotion he couldn’t quite describe. “Whitney, I don’t know why, but last night… out of nowhere, I felt really uneasy.
“It was like… you were in danger, and I wasn’t there to keep you safe.”
Whitney froze, her hand stopping halfway as she was about to push him off.
“Last night?‘ she thought, feeling a bit unsettled. ‘Was that when I ran into that guy in black?”
Ryan said, “I don’t know how to put it into words… All I know is, when I woke up in the middle of the night, my heart was racing, and all I could picture was you being in danger, something terrible happening to you.”
His voice was husky, almost like a tender whisper brushing against Whitney’s ear. If one listened closely, one could hear the faint tremor he couldn’t hide.
Whitney couldn’t bring herself to push him away anymore, so she poked him in the waist instead. “So you really spent the whole night outside my door?”
“Yeah,” Ryan replied. What he didn’t mention was that after waking up last night, he’d mobilized all the Pierce family’s secret guards to check on Whitney’s whereabouts.
He also kept to himself how anxious he felt, standing outside her door all night, unable to get a wink of sleep.
He was nearly losing his mind.
Thankfully, Whitney came back safe and sound, right on time, like they’d agreed.
Ryan didn’t see any injuries or signs of discomfort on her at all.
He could finally breathe easy.
Maybe it was all a bad dream last night.
He cared about Whitney so much that he couldn’t help but believe the nightmare was real.
But if he ever got another chance, he’d still go all out, give everything he had to make sure whitney was safe.
Chapter 124 Ryan’s Feeling
He’d still wait right outside her door, not moving an inch until she came back.
He couldn’t risk it, not when it came to her.
It was only at this moment that Ryan finally understood, deep down, how much Whitney meant to him.
She mattered to him so much.
More than he ever could have guessed, he hadn’t seen it coming.
This feeling crashed over him like a tidal wave
It had grown so fast, he hadn’t noticed until it was already here.
“Seriously, are you dumb?” Whitney grumbled, poking Ryan on the side of his head. “I went back to my old home to grab some tools for your treatment. What trouble could I possibly get into?”
Ryan let her poke him without protest, those refined eyes now clear after a brief nap, no longer showing any trace of fatigue.
But his face was still deathly pale.
“You look like you haven’t eaten yet,” Whitney said, nudging his hand off her waist. “Go on, the food I ordered for you is over there.”
She tilted her chin toward the side, signaling for him to sit down.
Ryan nuzzled his chin against her neck, acting like a big, loyal dog trying to get some affection.
Only then did he finally let go of Whitney, sitting down beside her and obediently starting to eat. Any takeout that could make it to Prestige Manor had to be top–notch.
Ryan, the privileged heir, actually found it pretty tasty.
As he ate, he kept his eyes glued to Whitney, not blinking.
He was probably still rattled from thinking she’d gotten into trouble.
Since he was so worried about her, she let it slide and didn’t bother to argue.
She let him stare.
But after hearing what Ryan said, Whitney couldn’t shake the feeling that something was off.
Last night, she ran into that guy in black, and Ryan had a nightmare that something bad would happen to her. He got so anxious, he ended up spending the whole night outside her door.
‘Was it a coincidence?‘ Whitney wondered.
Whitney couldn’t help but think about the letter her mentor left behind, and that crescent–shaped emerald pendant.
She thought. ‘Maybe there’s some kind of connection between all this.
‘I’ll wait until Ryan feels a bit better, then I’ll talk to him about the pendant.’
It was about time Whitney started digging into the mystery behind her mentor and her fellow students‘ disappearance, why they vanished, and where they ended up.
Whitney was deep in thought.
Suddenly, her phone rang with the sound of a video call.
She glanced down and saw it was a video call request from Nora.
After she turned her phone on, it was filled with harassment and threats from the Anderson family, as well as messages from Henry, Elian, and Nora.
Henry sent a routine greeting, along with a video of him and his daughter, his daughter expressing her fondness for Whitney.
Elian and Nora sent her several messages, all asking if she’d seen Chase and Emily’s comments.
Then they forwarded her all the videos from the blogger called Vee’s Fan.
The videos were roasting Emily, saying her bad deeds had finally backfired, and mocking Chase for being a total sis–con with absolutely no boundaries.
They also went off about the Anderson family’s stock crashing, making endless jokes at their expense.
But when Whitney didn’t reply, their messages shifted from casual sharing and venting to getting seriously worried.
They started freaking out, afraid she might’ve pissed off the Anderson family and was now being kept under wraps by them. Nora was so freaked out that she almost called the cops.
Chapter 124 Ryan’s Feeling
Whitney had already texted Nora, letting her know she was okay, but Nora still hadn’t responded
Now, Nora quickly started a video call.
Whitney picked up.
On the screen, Nora popped up in a cute, ancient–style outfit, looking like she stepped out of a fantasy drama, totally charming and ethereal.
She must’ve wrapped up filming, and as soon as she got a break, she called Whitney right away.
“Whitney, where did you disappear to these past couple of days? I couldn’t reach you at all!” Nora sounded super worried and anxious.
“I went back to my old place for a couple of days. There was no cell service and no power,” Whitney explained.
Nora’s eyes went wide.
Nora thought, ‘No signal… no electricity?
‘What kind of place had she gone to in Centlandia?‘
But then Nora remembered how Emily always said Whitney came from the middle of nowhere, some remote mountain place.
Nora thought, her mind spinning. Just how remote is that place, seriously?‘
