Chapter 129 She Is My Daughter
Paula patted Emily’s shoulder. “Your dad might not believe you, but I do, and so do your brothers. Don’t let his words get to you.”
Emily’s eyes were teary. “I know. I don’t blame Dad. He’s worried about the company.
“If apologizing to Whitney can help Dad, then I don’t mind swallowing my pride a little.”
As she spoke, Emily forced a smile, trying to look strong.
But that smile made everyone’s heart ache for her.
She went on. “Honestly, I’ve never wanted to fight or compete with Whitney. All I’ve ever wanted is for our family to be close to love each other, and for everyone to be happy.
“I’m glad you and my brothers believe in me, Mom.
“Knowing you all have my back, I’m not afraid of anything, and I don’t feel wronged anymore.
“If it helps Dad and makes you all happy, I’d do anything to please Whitney if that’s what it takes.
“I hope Whitney can remember that we’re bound by blood as Andersons, and maybe, for the sake of our family, let us be, give Mom, Dad, and my brothers some peace. That’s all I want.”
Between the lines, everything Emily said showed she was willing to do anything, make any sacrifice for the Anderson family.
And without making it obvious, she subtly made the Andersons see how much she’d suffered, and how genuinely kind she
was.
She took a jab at Whitney, making the Andersons resent her more.
She knew that by enduring all this, she’d make her family feel for her.
Her brothers would be more convinced that everything going on online was Whitney’s scheme against her.
And in their eyes, she’d still be that pure, sweet, and kind little fairy.
They couldn’t stand to see her actually humble herself and apologize to Whitney.
No matter what, she would never bow her head or ever apologize to Whitney.
She absolutely couldn’t let Whitney’s real identity come out in front of everyone.
She didn’t want to be scrutinized by those high–society ladies, getting all those judgmental looks.
And if she ended up as the Andersons‘ adopted daughter, she’d lose her status, her shot at being part of Roynfort’s elite, and any chance of marrying into the Pierce family.
That was the one thing she could never accept.
She thought, ‘If worst comes to worst, and I really have to attend that press conference tomorrow, my performance right now would become the thread that pulled at the Andersons‘ guilt.
‘All I have to do is give that thread a little tug, and the Andersons would turn into my most powerful weapon.
‘A blade points right at Whitney.
“None of this is your fault,” Brandon, who’d been silent all this time, finally spoke up, his voice low and steady. His sharp, chiseled features looked worn out, with a chill in his eyes that spoke of both fatigue and frustration.
But when he glanced at Emily, that icy look melted a bit. “Emily, Dad has been on my case too lately. I can’t talk him around, so I guess I am useless.”
He thought, ‘I should’ve been the one to deal with this, to shoulder the blame.
‘I never imagined something that seemed so simple would turn into such a mess, dragging me down, too.
And now, my own sister had to take the fall for my mistake.
For someone as proud and confident as Brandon, he couldn’t stomach it.
“I’m not letting you take the fall for nothing. I’ll send someone to talk to Whitney and see if we can work something out,” Brandon said.
Brandon shot Emily a comforting glance, silently telling her to hang in there.
Eric, who’d been sitting quietly, suddenly jumped up. “You’re going to talk to that bitch? I’m coming, too. I want to see how Whitney can still act all carefree after wrecking the Anderson family like this.”
Especially when he thought about how Whitney had made him a laughingstock, and now all those spoiled trust fund kids

were mocking him in their circles, it made him furious.
Even his racing team and esports crew had temporarily kicked him out, claiming he needed to recover in the hospital because of his injuries.
He was so furious he could barely contain himself.
He never imagined he’d get burned so badly by his own sister, the one he’d always looked down on.
He could barely wait to get his revenge.
As soon as he heard Brandon was going to go after that bitch, his mind ignited with thoughts of revenge.
He thought, ‘Have Emily apologize to Whitney?
‘Apologize? No way!
‘Today, I’m going to take Whitney down. Let’s see how long she can keep causing chaos!
“Find Whitney” Chase muttered quietly. He’d been sitting off to the side, keeping quiet the whole time.
He slowly looked up, his usually rebellious face now pale as a ghost.
“You guys better be careful. Whitney has changed a lot,” Chase warned.
Paula’s expression soured as she turned to Brandon. “What’s so different about her now? Let me know when you find Whitney. I’m coming with you!
“Change? She is my daughter. Whatever I tell her to do, she’ll do it. That’s how it is.
“Isn’t all this her way of trying to make us recognize her as part of the family? She’s forcing us to acknowledge her.
“She thinks she can be stubborn? I don’t buy it. If her own mother stood right in front of her, would she really dare to keep acting tough, going against us, and making Emily apologize to her?”
Paula had always been used to Whitney being so obedient and desperate for her affection. She couldn’t believe Whitney would actually cut ties with them.
She figured that so–called ‘cutting ties‘
one of Whitney’s tricks to get her way.
Paula thought, ‘Whitney keeps going after Emily, all because she wants my attention. She hopes I’ll share some of the love I give Emily with her.‘
Paula was convinced that as long as she showed up, Whitney would obediently return to the Anderson family and stop causing trouble.
She thought, ‘Then, I would simply make Whitney take the fall for everything.
‘That way, Emily wouldn’t have to apologize.
And if things got messy, I would always throw Whitney a little compensation later to smooth things over.‘
Paula took it for granted, never doubting for a second that she was absolutely right.
But Chase, seeing Paula so confident, let out a bitter laugh. “Mom, if she actually cared about you, she wouldn’t have caused all this trouble or let us be embarrassed like this.
“She really doesn’t care about us anymore, not at all.”
Thinking back to the wild island, Chase remembered the way Whitney looked at him. It was nothing like the hopeful, vulnerable girl she used to be.
Her coldness toward him ran deep, all the way to her core.
She was more distant than a total stranger.
He’d already felt plenty of icy stares and unforgiving treatment from Whitney.
He thought, ‘Whitney is trying to force us to recognize her true identity. But as long as we keep defending Emily’s reputation, Whitney wouldn’t back down.
‘Even if Paula confronted her in person, Whitney might not care!
