Chapter 142 The Same One
Chapter 142 The Same One
Whitney thought, ‘Is the Medical Association really holding a lecture conference?
‘That makes sense.
‘Davis is also the chairman of the Medical Association.
‘He’s already got what it takes to organize a big lecture like this.
‘I didn’t realize when my little apprentice became so amazing.
‘Just last night, I was treating Davis like my own little assistant, ordering him around for everything. ‘That was really out of line.
‘If any of the other Medical Association members had seen it, Davis would’ve totally lost facè.’
Whitney felt a pang of guilt about it.
Next time, she’d make sure to only boss him around when no one else was watching.
She decided to let Davis keep his pride.
Then, Whitney picked up her breakfast and started eating at a leisurely pace.
After a few bites, her stomach felt better, and she glanced up at Ryan. “Did Davis tell you about your situation?”
Ryan nodded, his expression unchanged.
“So, what’s your decision?” Whitney asked.
Ryan set down his fork and turned to look at her.
In those deep eyes of his, a steely determination began to shine through.
“I trust you,” he said.
His voice was steady, but there was a quiet strength in it that made anyone believe him instantly.
He added, “I’ll find out who put this curse on me as soon as I can. As for my body. I’m leaving it completely in your care.” Whitney was momentarily speechless.
She thought, ‘Why does that sound kind of off?
‘What would I want with his body?
‘Still, those eight-pack abs of his are definitely nice to touch. He’s got his advantages.’
Whitney’s gaze drifted to Ryan’s body, settling on his waist and abs.
She tilted her head, meeting Ryan’s gaze. “Alright, I’ll use my own methods to temporarily suppress the curse. I’ll do my best to make sure it doesn’t harm your body.
“But you don’t have much time to track down whoever cursed you. If you alert them, they could easily use the prime bug to force the branch bug inside you to activate.
“So, anything could happen. You need to be mentally prepared.”
She spelled out all the worst-case scenarios for him.
But the determination in Ryan’s eyes didn’t waver at all.
“I know,” Ryan said, his eyes growing more resolute. “I trust your medical skills, and I believe I can be the first to uncover the person behind all this.”
Whitney nodded. “I’m quite supportive of you finding the person behind this, because I might need to find that person myself as well.”
Ryan’s eyes flashed with worry as he reached out and grabbed Whitney’s wrist. “You’re also trying to find the person who cursed me? Wait, don’t tell me you’ve got a curse in you, too.”
“Nope,” Whitney replied, tilting her chin up with a touch of pride. “I’m a legendary doctor, remember? There’s no way I’d be dumb enough to get cursed without knowing it, as you did.”
Ryan couldn’t come up with a comeback for that.
‘s a relief.”

Whitney shot him a look, “When I went back to

“He threw a bug at me. The poison was intense; if it had landed on me, I probably wouldn’t have lasted a minute before dropping dead.
“Last night, I handed that bug over to Davis. The vibe from that bug is pretty similar Whitney rubbed her chin.
She thought, ‘So, the person who cursed Ryan, and that guy in black, could
‘Or, there must be some connection between them.
‘At the very least, all the bugs they’re using were made by the same person’
Ryan’s brows knitted together, his gaze turning stormy.
He thought, ‘That person has already set their sights on Whitney.

same person.
‘Did they realize Whitney might discover the bug inside me, so now they want to eliminate her?
‘Whitney ended up encountering that mysterious guy in black.
‘Did I end up dragging her into this mess?’
Ryan’s eyes grew more shadowed and unreadable.
He thought, ‘If whoever has been behind this really had set their sights on Whitney, too, I have to track them down as soon as possible.
‘There was no way I’d let Whitney be in any danger.
‘I needed to protect Whitney.
‘Not become a burden to her!’
“What are you brooding about now?” Whitney asked, noticing how his expression was getting colder, his eyes so deep they looked bottomless.
She reached out and put her hand right on Ryan’s forehead.
“Just because that guy in black showed up at my place doesn’t mean it’s about you,” Whitney said, poking him with her finger. “Don’t go thinking you’re the only one everyone’s after. I’m pretty great myself, you know?”
Ryan gripped her soft hand tightly.
His palm was damp with sweat, a lingering fear after hearing Whitney had been targeted by the man in black.
“Whitney, the person behind all this is dangerous,” Ryan said, his expression serious. “I don’t want you to take any risks.”
“Whether you want it or not, I’m already caught up in all this,” Whitney said, her face growing serious. “My getting involved has nothing to do with you, so don’t go feeling guilty or thinking you’re holding me back.
“Even if you weren’t around, they’d still come after me. Their target was never about you being close to me. It was always about me.
“That guy in black is after my mentor and his students.
“Got it?” After she finished, she gave the wrist he was holding a little shake.
Ryan blinked, looking a bit lost.
Whitney said, “Let go of my hand for now. Once you finish breakfast, I’ll show you something.”
After breakfast, Whitney took Ryan back to her villa.
Then she handed Ryan the letter her mentor had left her, along with the crescent-shaped half of a pendant. “Do you recognize this pendant?”
When Ryan’s eyes landed on the half pendant, his gaze faltered for a moment.
He hurriedly reached out and took it from her.
His fingers trembled ever so slightly.
He looked it over from top to bottom, inspecting it with utmost care.
Ryan rubbed the pendant’s outline with his fingertips, slowly and carefully.
“I recognize it,” Ryan said, his voice rough and shadowed, as if something dark had settled over him.
Then, he reached up, his slender fingers hooking a red string from around his neck.
The necklace was looped around his neck, standing out against his skin.

He revealed a crescent-shaped pendant, almost identical to Whitney’s.
But his pendant curved in the opposite direction from hers.
When they were placed together, they fit perfectly, forming a complete pendant.
Ryan joined the two halves, gently tracing the pendant with his fingertips. He said, his voice rough with emotion, “This is the only thing my mom ever left me.
“For as long as I can remember, I’ve never seen my mother.
“Grandpa always said she wasn’t a good woman because she couldn’t handle being alone, so she abandoned me and ran off with another man.
“But my dad told me she was trapped in this mansion because of him, like a bird in a gilded cage, robbed of her freedom. He never appreciated what she sacrificed for him.”
