Chapter 35 Emily Tries to Win Chase Over Again
Chase gave Emily one more freezing look, then rolled over with his back to her.
Emily sensed something was wrong. She pressed her lips together and called out to him. “Chase?”
But he didn’t move. He clearly had no intention of responding.
Emily frowned, completely confused about why Chase was suddenly upset and taking it out on her for no reason.
She felt so wronged. After all, she thought she never did anything wrong.
But even so, she kept calling his name, putting on her sweetest, most spoiled voice, hoping he would finally pay her some attention.
Even though Chase and Emily were off the stream, Chase’s name was still blowing up the chat. He was the most mentioned person by far.
His fans had been fired up, spamming the comments in his defense. They claimed it was all to stand up for their beloved Chase.
But watching Chase bow his head and apologize to Darian felt like a slap in the face. They were pretty disappointed.
They had been out there fighting tooth and nail for Chase, defending him against everyone. But then he turned around and sucked up to Darian, acting like their support meant nothing.
Chase had always been the untouchable rich guy with a bad attitude. He never bowed to anyone. He was always bold and arrogant, doing whatever he wanted.
So seeing him act like that in front of Darian shattered their image of him. They felt completely let down.
Some of Chase’s fans even started taking their frustration out on Emily.
They figured Chase and Emily were already suffering from the poison. Chase had it especially bad. He was in so much pain he could barely talk without his voice shaking.
Darian told them to rest for a day, but Emily had to jump in and play the hero, like she was trying to steal the spotlight.
There was no way the audience would see her as some tough, unshakable person to look up to or feel sorry for.
Everyone only thought she was an idiot.

Chapter 35 Emily Tecs to Win Chase Over Again
Meanwhile, over at Whitney’s place, everyone had finished eating. Ever the Considerate one, Elian quietly gathered up all the dishes and started washing them. Henry moved to help, but Nora stopped him. “With us young folks here, you don’t need to lift a finger, Mr. Howard.” She wiped her hands and hurried over to help Elian. Henry let out a helpless laugh. “If you won’t let me help, how am I supposed to get on Whitney’s good side later?”
“Mr. Howard, since when did you get so hip? You even know about hugging someone’s thigh,” Elian teased, clicking his tongue as he washed the dishes. “Whitney is that awesome. Even Mr. Howard likes you.”
“Hey, I have a daughter, you know. She keeps me up to speed on everything. I’m not that out of touch,” Henry said, sounding proud as he mentioned his daughter. Then he glanced at the big pot of spaghetti. Everyone had finished it in no time. Remembering how amazing it tasted, he couldn’t help licking his lips. “Whitney, your cooking totally won me over. If you don’t mind, I’d love to be your sous chef for the next few days.”
Whitney remembered that Henry had joined this survival show at his age only because his daughter was a fan. He wanted to be her hero. That was why he signed up.
But if she remembered correctly, because of Emily, Henry nearly lost his life on the island. He almost didn’t make it back to see his daughter again.
And even though he survived in the end, he completely lost his chance to be his daughter’s hero.
Emily, though, had no idea how serious the consequences were. She only cared about getting what she wanted.
Thinking about this, Whitney’s eyes twinkled with mischief as she smiled. “How could I ask you to work for me, Mr. Howard? Besides, if everyone ended up being my assistant, this show would lose a lot of its entertainment value.
“But as long as you bring the ingredients, you are always welcome to come have a taste of my cooking.”
Henry looked at Whitney, bare faced and still completely radiant, and found himself admiring her even more.
If this were any other celebrity, they would probably jump at the chance to brag or show off.
But Whitney was not like that. She played it cool, not acting humble but not arrogant either.
She didn’t take his joke about being her assistant seriously, but she also made sure not
to embarrass him.

His eyes were full of warmth as he nodded. “Thank you then.”
Everyone over there was laughing and having a good time. Bits of praise and flattery
for Whitney drifted through the air, and Emily heard every bit of it.
Emily bit down hard on her lip. Her face turned red with anger, her eyes full of frustration and resentment.
‘No way. This isn’t how things were supposed to go, she grumbled to herself. ‘I should be the one everyone is fawning over. I should be the real star here.
And Whitney, according to Emily’s plan, Whitney was supposed to be buried in scandals, getting torn apart by everyone online. All the other guests on the show were supposed to avoid her like the plague and completely isolate her.
‘Why?‘ Emily thought, her mind spinning. ‘Why is everything going off track? This isn’t what I wanted. Why am I the one stuck here, feeling so miserable and helpless?‘ Emily had always managed to get whatever she wanted by using her own tricks and methods.
But for the very first time, someone had broken free from her grasp and completely ruined everything she had plotted.
‘Whitney! This is all her fault, Emily seethed, gritting her teeth in frustration.
The more Emily stewed over it, the more her eyes turned red with rage. She clenched her fists so hard her nails dug deep into her skin. She did not even care about the pain.
‘If only Whitney’s reputation took a nosedive. If everyone turned against her. Then I would be the one getting all the attention,‘ she thought, jealousy burning inside her,
Emily narrowed her eyes, and her gaze locked onto the IV drip hooked up to her and Chase.
୮
‘I could pin the poisoning on Whitney, she thought, a nasty plan taking shape in her mind. ‘It doesn’t matter if it’s true or not. Once people start thinking Whitney is the reason Chase and I got poisoned, she’s finished.’
Her eyes gleamed with malice. But she couldn’t do this alone. She would need Chase to help her.
She glanced over at Chase. He still had his back turned to her. No matter how much she sweet talked him or tried to coax him around, he would not budge.
She bit her lip. Pushing through the pain, she slid off the stretcher, dragging the IV
with her. She inched her way toward Chase one tiny step at a time.
She didn’t call out to him. Instead, she quietly crouched beside him and stayed completely still.

She knew Chase was not asleep. He had definitely heard her moving around.
He didn’t move. Neither did she. They stayed like that in silence for about ten minutes.
Chase frowned. He was not sure what kind of game Emily was trying to play this time. But even after all that time, she still did nothing.
That made him even more annoyed.
He was still angry at her for acting on her own earlier. Since she was not making a move, Chase decided to ignore her too.
Then he started hearing the faint sound of Emily quietly crying. The sound was so soft and careful, like she was scared he would notice.
Chase pressed his lips together. Even his cold heart started to soften a little.
He frowned. A few seconds later, he let out a deep, heavy sigh.
Then he turned around and saw her tear–soaked face.
