Chapter 34 Forced to Swallow His Pride

All the comments from Chase’s crazy fans were sent straight to Darian by the data director.

His face went dark as he read through them. He ripped off his headphones and stormed out of the director’s room.

When Emily saw Darian coming over, she pushed down her nausea and gave him a gentle smile. “Hey, Darian.”

But Darian’s expression stayed cold. “You two got greedy and decided to cook up a batch of poisonous mushrooms behind our backs. Now look at you. Neither one of you is joining the livestream today.”

On the surface, he was telling them they wouldn’t be on the stream.

But really, he was explaining to the audience why Chase and Emily ended up poisoned. This had nothing to do with them. There was no way the production team could watch the guests twenty four seven.

By saying all of this right in front of Chase and Emily, Darian could avoid having to deal with all those obsessive fans flooding the livestream chat.

Chase felt so awful that he did not want to move at all. When Darian told him to rest, he was more than happy to take the break.

But Emily, lying next to him, reacted right away. Her eyes were still wet from the nausea as she looked straight at Darian.

“Darian, I’m okay, really. I can still do the next recording.” She forced a determined smile. “We are here for the show, so we should follow the rules. We don’t want to affect the show.

“I’m not afraid of hard work or being exhausted. Please do not give us special treatment because we are from the Anderson family.”

Emily’s hardworking, never give up character was on full display.

Chase, on the other hand, was furious. ‘Could she at least ask me first before saying stuff like that?‘ he grumbled to himself. ‘Why is she speaking for me? Is she throwing me under the bus right now?

‘If I actually take a break, will everyone think I am breaking the rules, messing up the show, and acting like some spoiled Anderson kid?‘

For the first time, he thought Emily’s eagerness to hog the spotlight in front of the cameras was seriously gross. Now he was completely put on the spot, stuck in an awkward position and feeling miserable.

Meanwhile, Emily was so focused on Darian that she didn’t even notice the annoyed glare Chase shot her way.

She absolutely could not miss any screen time.

The show only lasted seven days, which gave her exactly one week to build a fanbase. She had to make the most of that time to raise her profile and pull in as many followers as she could.

On the first day, she used Whitney to craft the perfect image for herself. On top of that, Brandon was pulling strings behind the scenes.

She snuck a look at her phone and saw that the internet was full of praise for her. Everyone was jealous of her as the Anderson princess with a brother who spoiled her rotten.

Meanwhile, because of her act, Whitney was getting torn apart online for being obsessed with Chase.

Everything was going exactly according to plan.

But that all changed after she schemed to make Whitney fall down that slope. After that, Whitney turned into a completely different person. She kept going against Emily and didn’t even care about Chase at all.

From then on, Emily kept getting sabotaged by Whitney. Her follower count stopped growing, and she was getting roasted online nonstop. Her plan had already taken a serious hit.

Now, she could not afford to let a single chance for camera time or fan growth slip by

The alternative was too terrible to imagine. A flicker of fear crossed her eyes, like she had remembered something that genuinely scared her.

Darian watched Emily’s performance with a blank expression. When she finished, he pulled up the snarky comments from Chase’s crazy fans in the livestream chat and quoted them back at her in a sarcastic tone.

Even if Chase was not the sharpest tool in the shed, he finally realized Darian was pissed after seeing all those livestream comments. And the comments were clearly about him and Emily getting poisoned.

His cheeks flushed with embarrassment at Darian’s words.

The Anderson family was one of the top families in Roynfort, barely squeezing into the top twenty. They were a cut above your average wealthy family.

But Darian did not become the industry’s top director on skill alone. His connections and family background mattered as much. After all, in this business, talent wasn’t everything.

The Bush family was on a whole other level compared to the Andersons. Chase knew he couldn’t afford to cross Darian, not with Darian’s connections in showbiz and the Bush family’s grip on Roynfort.

So even after Whitney shut him down, he held his tongue and didn’t make a scene. He could tell Darian was seriously pissed right now.

Even though he felt awful, Chase forced himself to sit up and managed a weak grin at Darian. “Hey, Darian, we messed up. This is all on us, not on you guys.

“Emily and I broke the rules by picking mushrooms on the island without asking. And now you guys have to take care of us. I swear we will not pull anything like this again. “Emily made a good point. We came here for the show, so we need to stick to the rules. Real Survival means crazy things can happen, and that is how it goes.

“We will rest for a bit. As soon as we can walk, we will jump right back in. Promise we will not slow things down.”

His words were heartfelt and earnest.

Darian’s expression softened a bit. “All right. If the doctor clears you, you can get back to filming. But if not, take another day off.”

Chase thanked him again and again.

He shot Emily a cold look. If the cameras weren’t right there, he probably would have let her have it.

Jason and Kayla tried to cozy up to Chase and Emily, but they got nothing out of it except missing their own breakfast.
