Chapter 56 Stop It
Chase was being ignored. His expression darkened noticeably, but he forced himself to stay patient and repeated his question.
Cohen still didn’t respond.
Finally, a nearby crew member spoke up quietly to explain, “Mr. Anderson, Darian passed out from the shock. All the pressure is on Cohen now. I’m afraid he doesn’t have the time to deal with you at the moment.”
Chase thought, ‘Darian fainted? Was it because of that close call out on the sea?’
Emily, pale and cradled in his arms, stirred suddenly. She struggled to open her eyes, catching sight of the drone still circling overhead.
Her reddened eyes instantly welled with tears. Her voice was hoarse and trembling with the aftershocks of survival. “Did we cause trouble for the production crew? I’m sorry.”
By the end, her voice had faded to a whisper. Yet the sobbing continued. She started coughing uncontrollably, like she’d swallowed half the ocean. Her small body shuddered in Chase’s arms.
Emily had always been the delicate, vulnerable type. Now, freshly pulled from the water, soaked and trembling, she looked so heartbreakingly fragile in Chase’s arms. It was the kind of scene that made you want to protect her.
In the livestream chat, some viewers jumped in to defend her.
The crew member shot Emily a glance and said nothing, but silently grumbled, ‘At least she knows she is a walking disaster. If it weren’t for her, none of this would have happened.
‘Ever since Darian passed out, Cohen’s phone hasn’t stopped ringing. All thanks to Emily.’
The staff member was seething with resentment, but he didn’t dare show it in front of Emily.
Chase lowered his gaze, murmured a few words of comfort to Emily, then looked back up at the crew member. “I’ll find Darian when he wakes up.” He turned, carrying Emily, ready to head back to their quarters.
Chase thought, ‘Emily just fell into the sea. She’s soaked through. She needs a hot shower and dry clothes now, or she’s definitely going to get sick.‘
Chase had barely turned when he heard the crew member mutter under his breath, “Even if he wakes up, he won’t be seeing
anyone.
“Ryan and Whitney are out there, dead or alive, nobody knows, and the two lifeguards are in trouble too. This show is done
for.”
The voice was low, but Chase caught every word. He froze mid–step.
Even Emily, limp in his arms, went wide–eyed.
“What did you say?” Chase lunged forward, stopping inches from the crew member, his eyes boring into the man.
The crew member jumped back two steps, staring at him blankly.
“What did you say?” Chase demanded. “What happened to Whitney?”
The crew member replied, “She saw the lifeguards getting swallowed by waves from the production booth, so she grabbed a jet ski and went after them.”
He felt a flicker of confusion. He thought, ‘Why does it seem like Chase cares so much about Whitney?‘
Chase’s body went rigid. Shock spread across his face. “Whitney rushed into the ocean to save them?”
He thought, ‘Is she crazy? The wind is howling, and the waves are massive right now. Going in there is suicide.‘
“Is she out of her mind?” Chase snarled, then immediately turned his head toward the churning, endless sea.
Chase grumbled inwardly, ‘This is production’s problem to handle. Her reckless stunt won’t save anyone. It’ll only get her killed.’
Emily, still nestled in Chase’s arms, had a swirl of complicated emotions churning deep in her eyes.
She thought, ‘Is Whitney really out of her mind? No. She is doing this on purpose to target me.‘
Emily knew exactly how the netizens would drag her through the mud for what she did on the boat. But she didn’t see anything wrong with her choice.
After all, in that kind of situation, she wanted to survive. There was nothing wrong with that. No normal person would risk their life to save strangers. She had plenty of ways to spin it.

But Whitney was in the safe zone. When she saw the accident, she ignored the violent wind and waves and charged straight into the water. And Emily? She was right there and chose to save herself instead.
Emily fumed inwardly, ‘Doesn’t that make us the perfect contrast? How am I supposed to clear my name now? The internet will tear me apart.‘
Emily was literally shaking with rage. Especially since she could clearly sense that Chase’s anger was laced with obvious concern for Whitney after hearing she might be in danger. Her heart grew heavier, with a hint of resentment mixed in.
It took her nineteen years to finally have the Andersons completely under her thumb.
Whitney had only been back for a year. Even after all the traps and schemes she set up to make everyone in the Anderson family hate Whitney, the moment Whitney got into trouble, Chase still showed concern.
Emily thought, ‘Is this the pull of blood?’ She stared out at the deep blue sea and thought, ‘It will be perfect if Whitney dies out there.
But she needed to figure out how to make up for what she did. She was here to build her fanbase, to become the top socialite everyone in Roynfort’s elite circles was obsessed with. She wasn’t going to let her plan fall apart.
Emily lowered her gaze, digging her nails into her palm hard enough to sting.
Like someone jolting awake from a nightmare, she suddenly widened her tear–filled eyes and clutched Chase’s shirt. Chase, there are still two lifeguards in the water. The waves are too big; we couldn’t save them. Tell the production team to send help, hurry.”
She threw her head back, and after shouting those words through her tears, she started coughing violently again. The coughing got worse and worse, like she was about to cough up her own lungs.
Emily sobbed, her face streaked with tears. “It’s all my fault. If anything really happens to those two ifeguards, I’ll never be able to forgive myself. Now that I know you’re all safe, I can finally relax.”
She tried to squirm out of Chase’s arms. “Chase, let me down. I need to go help those two lifeguards. They’re in danger because of me. I can’t abandon them.”
Her struggle was useless, about as effective as a kitten scratching. Chase quickly held her firmly in place.
“Stop it. You just got pulled from the ocean and had a massive shock. You can barely take care of yourself. How are you going to rescue anyone?” Chase sounded irritated.
He thought, ‘Whitney is already out there acting insane, risking her life in the water. That alone is giving me a massive headache. And now Emily wants to run off and join the chaos? Is she trying to make this disaster even worse?‘
Emily’s eyes flickered with shock. She looked at Chase, disbelief and hurt written across her face. “Stop it” was a phrase

But Chase was clearly distracted, his mind elsewhere. He didn’t even notice Emily’s wounded expression.
